If you have a few hours to kill on a layover at OHare airport or if you are staying in some of the hotels around OHare and would like a more authentic dining/drinking experience outside of the regular overpriced commercial fare by the airport then hop in a cab and take a very short ride to Hopscotch Beer and Whiskey Bar in Franklin Park.

First of all Hopscotch is located in a mixed residential/industrial area sort of off the beaten path. The bar is located in the downtown area of Franklin Park which has a lot of small mom and pop shops. Nothing glitzy. Once you step inside you will not be disappointed. It is a comfortable storefront bar. Half of the bar is a bar and the other half is a restaurant...There are two TVs for watching sports if you are a sports fan. Craft beer is the main commodity here with over 100 different beers. Some favorites and then some obscure beers. There are over 150 whiskey selections from $3 dollars a shot to the most expensive stuff.

The food selections are matched to pair off with the beer or the whiskey. If you are having beer, then they have a Build a Burger with 45+ toppings. If you are having whiskey, then there is the succulent rack of lamb which I had and it is truly the best I have had. Their menu is very broad in range from flatbread to steak sandwiches to tacos. The menu changes constantly so check in on their facebook page to see the specials. Gluten Free buns and tortillas as well as beers and ciders are also offered for those who follow a gluten free diet.

The best thing of all is that this place is so fair in its pricing. It is not your overpriced hotel bar or tourist bar. This place caters to the locals and is a great experience for a great price.

Great little "gastropub" hidden inside an old drive bar. Our driver and my colleague were both skeptical based on the neighborhood and exterior. But once we got our first two items (skirt steak sliders and Mac & cheese arancini) he was sold. Those ended up being the two best items other night, but we also had black bean sliders, mushroom flatbread, beer cheese with pretzel bread, butternut squash stuffed arancini, beer nuts, and a dessert special of waffle batter funnel-cakes. Good beer list and I enjoyed the whiskeys. If you're staying near the airport, well worth the trip.

So nice little bar with a limited menu for their kitchen next store. But what I love is they have a shelf of top shelf wiskeys for $3! That's krazy but good.

Beer list is always changing so hard to say what they have at any giving time.

The bathrooms walls are covered is chalkboard. So go krazy!

Place has a couple of huge tv's to watch all your sports. And mix with cheap drinks it's one hell of a place.

CONS:
(1) bring cash. Bring it cuz there cars system is a sell phone.
(2) if you can give tip to bar tender in cash. After talking to staff if you leave tip on cars the owner pockets it and never gets to server.

But all and all it's a great little spot full of locals.
