“WeightWatchers evening out..”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2012

About 20 members of Lisas Wickersley Weight watchers group went to 450 Above last night. The chef had made a real effort to make us a selection of 4 different starters, mains and desserts from the weight watchers cook books. The food was amazing, freshly cooked well presented.and the duck with figs was amazing. Our waitress was really friendly, the owner went out of his way to make everyone feel welcome.
The prices were very good starters £5,mains £10 and desserts £5
At the end of the evening the chef came out of the kitchen we all gave him a clap...for our wonderful food.
I would highly recommend 450 above for amazing food service and prices ..

“What a disappointing wedding anniversary”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2012

Went to 450 Above for our wedding anniversary on the 25th October. We had heard good things about this place and it is just at the end of our road so we thought we'd give it a go for our wedding anniversary. The place itself is a little 'stark'. It lacked a certain atmosphere, perhaps its just me and other reviewers seemed to like it but it would have been nice to have candles on the tables (indeed considering what followed it was essential) and in the lobby/bar seating area. It just seemed, and indeed felt, a little on the cold side (ladies if you don't like to be cool then you might need a wrap or the like). The staff were polite but seemed a little inexperienced. Having had our order taken (I don't eat meat only fish, this limited me to one main and I don't believe there was a vegetarian choice on the menu at all) we were shown to our table. The first course arrived (one fishcake and one haloumi) and it was very tasty and very well presented but it was a little on the cool side for my liking (as was the fishcake according to my wife). There was an odd smell (I assume burning plastic) for a while. The mains arrived (one brisket and one salmon encoute), again the food was well presented, was very tasty and this time my salmon was hot but my wife's brisket was again cool (we heard another customer comment the same about there meal). We had just finished the mains and all the lights went out (apart from two emergency lights). After some time had passed without any explanation we were told that there was a problem and they were trying to sort it. After a little longer (during which time they served some people some food, in the dark!) one of the staff explained that this had happened last Friday and again on Saturday night and that on the last occasion it had taken an hour to get an electrician out to sort the problem. How a restaurant, trading on its reputation can manage to have the same problem three times in a week is beyond me, I assume heads might roll. Several other couples got up and started to leave and we shortly followed them.

Although the reception member of staff apologise dand tried to be polite she claimed she had been left in charge but didn't offer to reduce the bill for a curtailed and ruined evening, only when I preseed her to ring the manager for a discussion did she relent and knock the cost of our drinks off the bill. The lack of electricity also meant that no card payment was possible so the people paying before us had to go to the cash till across the road to get cash from the ATM in order to pay there full bill (no discount offered).

I am sure that other people have had good experiences there and I am convinced that the chef really knows what he is doing because the quality and presentation of the food is great but something went very wrong last night and there just didn't seem to be a contigency plan in place for that kind of eventuality despite it apparently also happening twice in the previous week.

“Excellent Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2012

This restaurant is a real find, the food is top notch and the service excellent. We have been a couple of times as a party of 14 and both the waiting and kitchen staff coped extremely well. We visited the restaurant a couple of nights ago, the booking was last minute as another local restaurant,E'lupo in Rotherham let us down, we had a fantastic night, very enjoyable indeed. Give 450 Above a visit, you will not be disappointed.

“Great menu and no confusing prices.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2012

Went via a Living Social voucher and found it to be very good. The food was exceptional. As another reviewer has said, the menu is not too long, but the choices are very balanced. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

“Great Menu Great Price!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 19, 2012

Recently visited midweek - our first time here & had a great night. Staff are really friendly & the food is excellent. Totally recommend the salmon en croute & the bread & butter pudding is wonderful. Nice to be able to sit on the sofa with drinks before you head to your table. We will definitely return with friends.
