We stayed in a double bed room and it was very spacious...maybe a bit too spacious, even with the furniture, things looked a bit sparse. Nicely decorated with contemporary colors and artwork. Carpeting was stained here and there. Bathrooms were tiny, but useable and Aveda products were given.
Hotel staff were courteous and very attentive. We wanted to heat up leftovers from Joy Yee's (great Pan-Asian food on 519 Davis St) and someone brought us a microwave and even the concierge offered to heat up our food. Housekeeping did knock on our door three times one day, and then a supervisor came by to make sure everything was okay. We had the tv on, but we found it a nuisance.
Lots of restaurants, decent shops, and the public library in the area. Wi-fi and internet access in the rooms worked sporadically.
We parked in the parking structures about 2 blocks (Sherman St ramps). Saturday-Sunday was only $5 (doesn't charge for Sunday parking) and Sunday-Monday was $8 (6-12 hrs and we parked on the streets in the day time because of free meters).

It looks like a grand old hotel but has some nice modern touches on the inside, both in the lobby and like the one red wall in our room. The staff is very nice. It's in a great area for walking around.

The first night I arrived the bathroom was all dirty, had to wait to the next day to have it cleaned. Internet was not working and the coffee machine neither. Had very serious problems with the insurance money (they overcharged my credit card). The walls are so thin that you can hear conversations and TV shows on adjacent rooms.

That being said, the staff is in general very friendly and willing to help, the hotel in located very close to all major amenities (grocery store, cafes, metro and train station).

The place has a lot of potential but need to improve on quality.

We had a nice stay at the Hotel Orrington. It is only a couple streets away from the train station, so very convenient. We parked our car at the hotel, and didn't move it until we left. Parking is $20.00/day, which is more than I would have liked to have spent, but a pretty average price for the Chicago area. We named our price on priceline.com (and got a great deal!), so we didn't really get a chance to pick the location or details of things we like in a hotel, but it turned out great. There is a Panera and Einstein Bros. Bagels right around each corner for breakfast. We didn't actually spend much time in Evanston. The train ride to down town Chicago was kind of long, but we stayed out all day/evening, and didn't need to go back to the hotel during the day. So I think the distance was worth the price we got. The train ride to Wrigley Field was about half the distance to downtown, so we went to a Cubs game in the afternoon, then after the game spent the rest of the evening in downtown. After a couple of long days being tourists, the comfortable beds were amazing. Overall, I think this is a good hotel for someone that doesn't need to be in the heart of the city, or if you are going to be in Evanston, this would be a great place to stay.

A great property that was completely renovated and has a wonderfully appointed convention center. The room was very comfortable and the restaurant had a nice appeal. I also enjoyed the lobby bar and the live music.

Pros: Fairly comfortable beds, nice sized room, good light from windows and lamps.
The hotel restaurant had a good breakfast menu, service, ambiance and good breakfast food.

Cons: You had to approach the valet for service upon arrival and open the hotel doors yourself despite luggage, stroller and kids in tow.
There was definitely no welcoming smile at any time we came or went.
The bathroom was too small to closed the door without squeezing in front of the toilet first and the bathroom floor had quite a bit of hair on it upon arrival.
We paid $20 extra for breakfast to be included in the room rate and received two $8.00 coupons toward adult breakfast choices and then still had to pay for our teenagers meals.
Our room must have been by an emergency building as we heard sirens drive by all morning long.

Overall: I was surprised by the standoffish service and wasn't sure where the 4 star rating fit in the bathroom. Don't upgrade to the bed and breakfast room rate - it doesn't pay for itself!!!
Lovely location for visiting Northwestern and walking downtown Evanston.

I was surprised by the Orrington. It was a very nice experience. The room was very nicely put together. The bed was super comfortable, same with the pillows. High quality sheets. It was one the best beds I've ever had in a hotel. The only complaint I would have about the room was that the AC was a bit noisy, but it did not get in the way of my sleep (the bed made up for it). Very nicely decorated room as well as hallways. Valet parking worked well and was very prompt.
