SPACE is a fantastic venue to see music. An intimate experience, there is not a bad seat in the house. Standing room only shows are just as enjoyable. Pizza can be brought in from the adjoining Union Restaurant and drink service is great. The price cannot be beat!

The lighting set-up blinds the band so they can't see the audience, which completely isolates them from the crowd and totally obliterates the "live" vibe. Horrible! Plus, whoever runs the soundboard has no idea how to mix more than a couple instruments. It's an ok place for hearing a solo artist but a complete bust if you're there to experience a real, live, working band. Not to mention 5 simoleons for a Miller Lite and a dining exxperience sullied by a surfeit of free-range suburban kids. We'll stick with Schuba's, thank you very much.

Last night, we saw David Bromberg at SPACE in Evanston, IL. We live on the other side of the city (with the Chicago Marathon going on, a 90 min drive), so we decided to make it a mini-vacation. SPACE, you put on a great show! David, we hadn't seen you since the late 80's, and your voice and showmanship has gotten even better! SPACE, a small venue, about 200 (?), not a bad seat in the house, great sound. Cold, Fat Tire beer, saw lots of folks eating pizza.....looked good.
We had GA seats, and arrived 30 min before the show began, got great seats.
Bought tickets for a show in January while there. Will be back!

Went to see JD McPherson at Space, Evanston, IL. Amazing, intimate concert venue. The place doesn't hold a whole lot of people - maybe 200, but I can't imagine too many more than that if I am wrong - but is warm and welcoming. The staff is extremely friendly. The venue is very clean and seems well organized. You are very close to the performers and the acoustics are perfect. There was some reserved seating with the majority being general admission. The difference in price between general admission and reserved seating was very reasonable. The only negative due to my lack of "tallness," was my limited view of the stage (I purchased general admission tickets) and have decided that I will do my best to purchase reserved seating tickets next time I go. If you are a music lover, you need to check out this gem!

This wonderful combination restaurant/ bar and music venue brings in nationally known act (Johnny Winter, Beausoleil) and also supports locals making it big, like Ezra Furman. Th room has wonderful acoustics, but you need to get there early for seating unless you pay for tables up front. Hard floor if you wind up standing, but great dance space. This is an intimate venue and often feels like the performers are in a living room with old friends.
