After backerpacking for 1.5 years I been fed that much since I left with such high quality and quantities since I left Sophie definitely didn't let me go hungry. Wilson and the crew as a whole was one of the highlight wether it was the friendly banter or the past voyages.
What a great trip!
This was my first sailing experience and it was anything but amazing.
It’s a slow and relaxed way to visit islands and get to Colombia. The time traveling from San Blas islands to Cartagena in the open sea did not really feel that long. One long night (spend sleeping most of the time) and one long day.
Oh and we have seen sooo many dolphins throughout the trip. Their presence was always announced by a very important crew member - Big Mac an amazing dog.
The sail boat looks great and well maintained. The crew is probably the best you can have. The captain, Charlie, is very easy going and makes sure that everyone is having fun. The rest of the crew are very social fun characters.
The food was amazing and they serve 4 meals a day and I never felt hungry. If that is the case just ask the chef Manuel to make you a snack and he will!.
Manuel was the best chef I could have hoped for. He is very social and funny personality that makes delicious food. His singing is also not too bad at singing haha. His favourite song I think goes sometime like “... no puedo no puedo vivir sin tu amor...” hahah. As he is from Cartagena, the first night he went out with us to show us the best spots in Cartagena.
I definitely recommend Wild Card and it’s crew!
I was recommended this trip by a friend who took Wild Card a few years ago but was still a little apprehensive about the cost and time at sea. The trip was however more than worth the money with a crew that genuinely wanted us to have a great time and went to further lengths than necessary to ensure we were well taken care of.
The 4 meals a day were excellent both on the boat and on the islands with the welcoming local Kuna families and our chef Manuel catered to any and every dietary need (being pescetarian was awesome because it meant extra, freshly caught fish). The lobster meal was one of the best I've had in a long time, certainly the best whilst backpacking.
I've heard mixed reviews from people who used other companies of some captains limiting alcohol or running out of drinking water(!) so I really believe we were in the best and most fun hands on Wild Card.
Thanks Charlie, Keenan & Big Mac (did I mention their sweet boat doggo) for being such awesome hosts to your amazing little home.
If you travel from Panama to Colombia or vice versa then you really should book a sailing trip with Wild Card. To me it was a great way to travel, to spend some days on the paradise like San Blas islands, to snorkle, play volleyball and simply relax and party. Wild Card as a ship was clean and safe, the crew welcoming and easygoing. And 4 surprisingly delicious meals a day were just the last extra that I didn't expect. The ship can accomodate 20 but we were just 13 and that went very well. I was afraid we wouldn't get enough food or water but on the contrary, there was plenty. Bring some extra us dollars for beers or coconuts on the islands, there are bars on some of them. And don't forget to take your trash with you when leaving an island.
What an excellent experience it was going on the Sovereign Grace travelling from Panama to Columbia. I would highly recommend this boat for any mid 20s travellers wanting to have a AWESOME while experiencing the the San Blas islands. The 6 days consists of visiting different islands, swimming on inflatables, bonfires, coco loccos and lots of partying!!
The were sensational and really are passionate about what they do.
Shout out to the Captain Wilson thank you for being so accomodating and answering a good 3 hours worth of questions on our sail to Columbia.
Shout out to Sophie for the food as each day it was AMAZING and really was better than we expected.
Only advice I would give is dont forget your sea sickness tablets and make sure you bring enough drinks as you manage to make your way through them pretty quickly!
We had an unforgettable trip sailing from Colombia to Panama aboard Wildcard. The scenes were unreal, and are hard to beat! Top notch crew Charli, Ori, Manuel and Sam who were awesome and knew their stuff. Would 10/10 recommend doing this trip, definitely a highlight.
