“Idyllic countryside setting”
Reviewed July 14, 2018 for a stay in June 2018

The cottage at Tourné is well situated in a peaceful, pleasant part of the French countryside ideal for couples, families or even someone on their own looking to get some peace and quiet in the country. The cottage is well equipped, comfortable and pleasant to stay in. All around are mountains, trees, the sound of the birds and the relaxing flow of the river which runs through the bottom of the garden. Close by to the cottage there are many lovely natural sights to visit and walks to enjoy. The village of Castelnau Durban is a quick 6 minute drive away and is useful for some basic items but also has a nice shop showcasing some of the area's artisan products from food items through to ceramics and hand worked wood. For a bigger town the region capital of Foix is only 25 minutes or so along the D117 so there are also plenty of other things to see and lots of access to shops, bars, markets, restaurants etc. Paula and Ram are wonderful hosts: ready with suggestions about places to visit and able to answer any questions you will have about the area etc. Overall we had a wonderful time and would be very happy to recommend the cottage at Tourné.

“Complete tranquility”
Reviewed June 18, 2016 for a stay in June 2016

The gite is in a beautiful setting, with many places of interest nearby. We enjoyed some picturesque walks and drove to nearby towns of Foix, St Girons, Mas d'Azil, all which have interesting markets. Unfortunately the weather prevented us from swimming in Lake Monderly, but we took out our kayak instead. Unseasonal torrential rain for a lot of the time!
Some querky features in the gite would make it unsuitable for anyone who was not fit and active. Also beware low beams when climbing the stairs!

“There is magic here ....”
Reviewed November 1, 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Sarah and I stayed in the gite for four weeks and it was wonderful! Tres romantique.
Though only two kilometres up the little green valley from the village, the outside world fades instantly and is replaced by tranquillity - the steep, forested hillsides; the musical sound of the stream running under the old stone bridge; apple, fig and walnut trees; the shade of the umbrella over the lunch table on the grass; and at night the waft of woodsmoke in the early autumn chill.
Paula and Ram are friendly, gracious, and generous hosts. The gite has lots of little thoughtful touches and is equipped with all you need. The re-build is a remarkable labour of love - just the two of them, starting from a pile of rubble. and very sympathetic to the setting.
The location is excellent for exploring the Pyrenees, east and west, and there are many truly spectacular vistas. On rest days, the markets in the villages of the Ariege are busy and colourful, and have an excellent standard of food, wines, art and craft.

“Feels like coming home”
Reviewed October 15, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

Tourne is for us a place to come back every year. We can slowdown and really reload for next school- and workingyear.
It's a great location in the middle of green mountains with a nice stream in the great garden.
Many thanks for the owners; they make you feel like you belong there.

“Idyllic forest retreat”
Reviewed September 23, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We enjoyed a week in the cottage and the beautiful surrounding forest. It was great having our own garden, a stream to dip in when it was too hot and a wood burner for when it was too cold.

Everything we needed was there and the delightful Paula and Ram happily provided anything else we asked for. Their home cooked dinners that we enjoyed a number of times were more than good and they had no problems with accommodating my dietary needs.

Overall a great place to rest and re-charge.

“Cosy cottage attached to beautiful house and gardens in Ariege”
Reviewed July 8, 2015 for a stay in April 2015

My wife and I spent eight days staying in this lovely cottage in the foothills of the Pyrenees. The cottage is attached to the magnificent old house and gardens, known as Tourne, in the hamlet of the same name. It was clean and tidy, and the kitchen had all the things we needed, plus the woodburner kept us cosy in the cooler evenings. The owners were very helpful and kind, and provided us with lovely meals in the main house: the Persian lamb stew and the chicken curry were particularly memorable! There are many lovely walks in the forest that can be accessed straight from the garden, but it was very tempting to just stay in the garden, reading books and listening to the sounds of the river and the birds. Also many local attractions including stunning Cathar castles, and of course, the mighty Pyrenees.

“A great spot for the right guests.”
Reviewed June 26, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Very nice owners and a really quiet-&-green location. Good facilities and clean. We travelled as 2 couples and probably had developed an idealized expectation. The small bedrooms are both up narrow ladder stairways and my wife and I decided not to risk the stairs to ours and instead we slept on the sofa-bed down below - respect for brittle 65+ y/old bones. Kids and young adults will probably love the place - it's quite idyllic - but the bedroom set-ups are a bit of an ask for seniors. We apologized to Ram & Paula and left early.

Hello Ian
so sorry you found the stairs a problem. I do say in the information that the cottage is not suitable for those with limited mobility. You are right younger adults and children do adore the cottage for the very reasons you found it difficult .' cosy and quaint' are the qualities often used to describe the cottage. I am sorry it was not right for you. Hope you enjoy the rest of your time traveling in europe
