My customer suggested we have lunch at Cafe Amano in Elmhurst, IL. We normally would have gone to Francesca's. The waiter advised what the lunch specials were. They sounded good so we ordered these instead of something off the menu. Big mistake as the Salmon lunch special set me back $28 and the Lobster ravioli was $25. $28 for lunch, really ? We will definetly be going back to Francesca's were lunch specials are always $10-$12.

First off, I've never eaten at Cafe Amano, so I cannot be a judge of their food. That said, I have had mochas, iced coffees, cappuccinos, and many pastries and loved them all.

Running in the $3 range for a mocha is a beautiful thing as Starbucks can easily take your Lincoln without giving more than a dime in change. Although it's not the absolute best mocha in town, the atmosphere is very nice, and the staff is very friendly. Additionally, the pastries are very tasty and also quite affordable.

Despite looking like a sit-down restaurant only, you should stop in and grab a drink and pastry to class up your date at a very affordable price.

The restaurant is right by the train station, so if you are near a Union Pacific West line station, you could easily hop off and on the train. The tables are nicely spaced for more private conversations. There is outdoor seating in the warmer months. All of the servers have been helpful and friendly. The vidalia onion soup is out of this world. I believe a comment from someone in my group the last time we had it was, "I would go back and just get a vat of that soup to stick my head in." Some other highlights on the menu: gnocchi (pesto and the basil, tomato, mozzarella), trout, prawns, baked brie, salmon, ravioli). Last time I had a daily special, the lobster ravioli, which was incredible. We also shared some dessert. The apple tart was unique; it was not as sweet as expected and it was almost like layers of dough. The chocolate lava cake was outstanding. They have a nice sized wine list that offers a variety of wines and prices. My only pet peeve (this is really picky and has nothing to do with the food) is that on the outside of the building they have things written on the tops of the windows and martinis is spelled with an apostrophe. I know am a picky English teacher, but I had to write that! Other than that ridiculously picky issue, this restaurant is a must if you are in the area.
