“Great park and fly value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2008

We stayed at the quality inn prior to our trip to Florida. The room was comfortable but small. We had no trouble with the shuttle on the way to the airport. The price for park, sleep and fly was very affordable. Our car was just as we left it and the area felt very safe. We would use this hotel again.
If you don't know the O'hare pick up area very well, I would suggest getting good directions from staff about where to wait for the pick up shuttle at Ohare. Maybe it was the 5 hr trip that turned into a nightmare 20 hr's but our family missed three shuttle pick ups before we found the right spot.
Elk grove has a very nice nature preserve with their own herd of Elk. Our three year old loved it. Woodfield mall and a number of restaurants are a short drive away. There are 2-3 restaurants within walking distance.

We booked this hotel based on their Park and Fly package and were not disappointed. The Quality Inn Elk Grove (a former Hampton Inn) was nothing fancy, but clean, modern and efficient. Its close to O'Hare, so you will get some noise from planes, especially around 9pm, but this is standard for any airport hotel. Our wake-up call (2:30 AM, Yikes!) was correct, and their shuttle to and from O'Hare was on time. The driver arrived within minutes after we called the hotel to pick us up and our car was still in one piece after a week in their lot. There is a small bar in the hotel, internet access and the hotel advertises an included, hot and deluxe buffet breakfast. Unfortunately, we were not able to take advantage of this perk because our flight departed early in the AM before the breakfast was served. It would have been nice if they had a continental breakfast available for those who had to fly out early.

A piece of advice: if you are driving to O'Hare from out of town and have an early flight, Park and Fly really is the way to go. Packages generally include a night's stay, shuttle service to and from the airport, and at least a week's parking. O'Hare is always stressful, but this is a considerable stress reliever. Be wary though, not all Park and Fly hotels have a 24-hour shuttle, which is problematic for travelers with really early, really late, or highly delayed flights. The Quality Inn Elk Grove has both a timely 24-hour shuttle and one of the cheapest rates.

Good rooms and the staff at the front desk were very professional and pleasant. Also the breakfast was good. This hotel has limited space for parking, and it appears to me they oversell their park and fly package. I had to leave my vehicle key with the staff so they could park it for the week, and I was not comfortable with this. Additionally, their shuttle service offers only mini-vans and full sized utility vans, so if you are traveling in a group of 10 or more with luggage you run the risk of being separated. Our group of 10 made it out OK in one van, but on the return we waitied nearly an hour for the van, and were overcrowded with people and bags because a pushy man and his wife insisted they crowd in with us resulting in my wife having to sit with a suitcase on her lap, and my 18 year old daughter having to sit with her 15 year old sister on her lap for the 20 minute ride. I would not advise this hotel for groups of 10 or more especially if you have children in your group. I guess you get what you pay for. It was inexpensive.

This is a "renovated" (but not from ancient times) former Hampton Inn property. Accordingly, the rooms are a bit on the smallish side. Rooms, hallways and breakfast areas were reasonablely well-appointed (with some wear here or there). As an airport hotel, if it is not maintained...word gets around...so the staff and property were in good order in handling a significant amount of people traffic; very clean. The property is stuffed between a freeway (overhead) and a major four-lane artery, however noise was NOT a problem...from cars or planes.

Per other reviews: my king room came with a lapdesk, a new one-cup coffee maker, stuffed chair and foot rest. Wireless had good connectivity. The bed was exceptionally comfortable...firm. (It is NOT for folks that prefer soft beds.)

Breakfast was on-par with competing airport hotels: processed egg paddies (sounds gross, but they are pretty decent), make-your-own waffles; yogurt, juice machine, bagels, cereals; sweet rolls & donuts, bacon strips (not very good); fruit bowl casserole(not individual pieces of fruit). Spaghetti Warehouse is across the street...and 100 yards down from the warehouse (at the corner) is Bakers Square (an underated casual family restaurant).

There is a potential budding problem though with this propery; hence the 3-star rating. They are using the breakfast area as an off breakfast-hours bar. When I pulled up I had to dodge a swarm of drinkers (beer bottles in hand) that had overflowed into the front foyer. I suspect it was a corporate outing consisting of fly-in and local Chicago employees as they had a check-in and snack tables set-up. They were well-attired and behaved. The problem is that this group took ALL the parking! A valet had to be used to park my car. There is limited parking as it is!

If you are traveling on Busse Road (from the south) watch out for the police. I counted three pullovers over the space of two miles. .

Three-star value because of the hotel-induced parking inconvenience.

I selected the hotel primarily for the wireless internet and airport shuttle. No one will mistake this for a luxury hotel, but it is a step or two above the rock-bottom budget hotels. I'd guess that it is not a new hotel, but it has been updated. The common areas are nothing special, though the hallways are very brightly lit with lights above all of the room doors.

I was in a business king room. It is a tad small for a suburban hotel, but was certainly fine for one person. I hope the double rooms are larger. The room was very clean. Some furnishings and decor were new, but some fixtures and furnishings showed minor damage and wear.

I had a hard time adjusting the a/c to the right temperature. Also, even with the fan on low, it was noisy. Of course that means it will drown out noisy neighbors and the sound of airplanes.

As others have noted, the beds are very comfortable-- comparable to Hampton Inns I have stayed in. The easy chair and desk chair were both nice. The room included an easy-to-use alarm clock, iron and board, one-cup coffee maker (but coffee and tea is also available in the lobby all day.) There was also a lap desk. I don't think there was a hair dryer. The wireless worked without problems.

I was less impressed by the breakfast than previous posters, but it was okay. There is variety, though there was only white bread for toast, and only two hot selections. Most people will find something to eat. They also have a bar in the breakfast area in the evenings. It was better than many budget hotel continental breakfasts, but not as good as a Hampton or Homewood Suites breakfast (of course it is a cheaper hotel than those.)

I took the shuttle several times. The trip to and from the airport varied from 15 minutes to 45 minutes, and the wait for a shuttle from the airport varied from 10-30 minutes. Sometimes we stopped at other hotels with the same owner (the Super 8 and the Comfort Inn in Elk Grove Village-the Quality Inn is furthest from the airport of these three hotels.) The shuttles are wretched, smelly, dirty vehicles, but they run. Barely.

The front desk staff were helpful, friendly, and accommodating.

The area seems safe, but is very commercial--as would be true for most O'Hare area hotels. There are a few restaurants within walking distance and a huge number that are a short drive or long walk away. In almost all cases, you will need to cross four-lane roads to get to them. There is a Spaghetti Warehouse across the street, and a McDonald's not to far. There are a huge number of restaurants within a 10 minute drive to suit almost any taste. At the intersection of Busse and Algonquin there are strip malls with many restaurants. Arcos taqueria is good for tacos, and if you are adventurous, there is a very good Korean BBQ at Chungkiwa.

Some updates on previous postings:
-No bottled water was provided in the room on arrival
-A TV channel listing was provided.
-There was a pretty wide selection of channels, including 3 HBO stations.

If driving, watch out for the huge potholes on Busse Road.

It's not perfect, but overall, I was pleased and will probably stay here again.

Dear Travellevret,

I am glad to see you enjoyed your stay with us. I don't know if you hopped in the wrong shuttle or not, but we are not affiliated with the Comfort Inn in Elk Grove. (That hotel has also closed recently) Our vans are constantly washed and cleaned at the start of every shift. I am guessing you might have hoped in the Comfort Inn Elk Grove's van and they offered you a ride to our hotel.

We do have 4 HBO channels and 5 ESPN channels in addition to our expanded cable lineup.

I would love for you to stay again, it seems there were a few things overlooked or missing in the review. I hope we can provide an even better experience for your next stay!

Sincerely,

Patrick

We stayed here for the first night of our honeymoon after our original flight was returned due to the earthqauke in Hawaii (sucks I know). With all the craziness we contacted the first cheap hotel we saw directly from the airport and were able to get a room.
I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. This place is very clean and well kept and the staff is very friendly. The room was spacious and the beds very comfortable. Not to mention that the bathroom was impeccable, something very important to me. They have daily breakfast with plenty of items to select from and a couple of restaurants across the street. They also have great shuttle service to and from O'Hare.
This is obviously not a 5 star resort, but a very nice and affordable place to stay for short trips.

Very nice hotel, very nice room. Clean, new-ish, not run-down at all. Nice decor, comfortable beds. Wonderful breakfast: sausage biscuits & gravy, fresh homemade waffles, french toast sticks, bagels, muffins, cereal, and more. Only bad things: no fan/vent in the bathroom, no tv channel listing, and below-average customer service at check-in/out desk. But would definately stay there again.
