“Great stopping palce!”
Reviewed July 11, 2012

This really worked out nicely for us. We were visiting friends and family in the north Chicago area for the day, having driven up from Springfield, IL, that morning. We didn’t want to drive all the way back, so selected this hotel as being on the way south but still near enough to our friends in Northbrook, that we could get there easily in the late evening.
This was perfect right off I-290 and we reserved the suite with the sofa bed, as we like the living area, but put a space A request on the website for an upgrade to a 1 BD unit if available – only $5 to add that request. It worked: we got the upgrade.
The breakfast was excellent with a large area so no one was crowded. And, as we saw before in this chain of hotels, they are choosing to use real dishes and silverware, which makes it even nicer. There is also a great patio area where you can eat too, but as it was over 100 degrees, no one did.
It was easy to get on the freeway south as we could leave late to miss the traffic, since the checkout is not until noon. We would certainly return here.

Stayed here for 5 days for sister's wedding.
Hotel itself is in a great location - easily accessible from all the suburbs and city. Within 5 miles is shopping galore - including Woodfield mall.

Hotel had plenty of free parking out front as I pulled in. As some have noted, when there is a large function it does get full, but I never had an issue finding a spot.
Front desk was very nice - I signed up for an upgrade via the website & promo email and the first employee didn't know how to do it, but was very gracious trying to figure out a solution. Luckily the main/senior manager appeared, solved the issue and got me my upgrade and was very nice in working the reservation out to make sure I could stay in the same room the entire stay. So thank you to those front desk employees as very nice room & nice to not have to move a ton of luggage! Front entrance has security after hours - have to swipe your card -- nice touch for those concerned about safety.

Room itself was a king suite w/ whirlpool. Very large closet (good since had lots of wedding attire), clean carpet, very clean bathroom, very very large "living room" with a sofa bed, two side tables w/ lamps, dresser, TV (not flat screen, but did pivot), nice chair and then a side section with a mini fridge, microwave, storage space with a coffee maker on top of a spacious "bar' area that also had a large mirror and outlets (perfect if you have a second person getting ready and you need outlets & mirror). large whirlpool tub in the main living room - so obviously meant for a "couples" situation - although I guess for a girls' weekend you could use it as a "hot tub" . A/c in the living room and in the bedroom. Door dividing the living room from bedroom - nice for noise control if one person wants to stay up.

Bedroom - large with a desk, lamp and a lot of outlets (yay!), good size bed with two side tables and lamps w/ good lighting. Dresser w/ TV on top (not flat screen), and A/C unit.
Very nice touch - windows in bedroom AND living room open - very nice to get fresh air! Bed very comfy with 4 large feather pillows. Alarm clock as well. Also a nice book on hotel services (they have laundry there, vending machines, etc.) and a magazine on what is around hotel - which is helpful b/c so much is within 10 miles.

Bathroom very clean with shower/ tub and a lot of counter space. Hair dryer actually had some power - which is nice. Toiletries were Pantene shampoo/ conditioner and Vaseline brand lotion. There is a bar /sports bar next door - but I didn't hear anything from it unless i had windows wide open and there were patrons outside. There were flyers that you could order food/ pizza from next door almost as "room service" - I didn't use this but my sister did and had a great pizza in about 20 minutes.

Breakfast is complimentary and a wide array: many mini cereals w/ choice of milk, fresh fruit, yogurt, many juices, bagels, toast, english muffins (honey, peanut butter, jams & butter), scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, sausage, make-your-own-waffle station, warm oatmeal with toppings such as brown sugar and probably more that I forgot. a separate coffee & tea station- coffee was actually good & strong. Variety of Teas, including Tazo Tea (the kind Starbucks carries) as well as sugars and flavoured creamers. Good amount of seating - never had any issue with finding a place to sit. Always seemed smoky in the morning - but I chalk that up to patrons burning their toast.

Was there as hotel is attached to the Belvedere Event Hall - doesn't look like much on the outside but beautiful lobby and they did an AMAZING job on my sister's wedding - looked gorgeous and "high end." There was a bridal party suite upstairs we could access during the entire time w/ private bath, champagne and treats - nice touch. You can just walk from the hotel through interior hallways to the venue - a great touch for out of town wedding guests. (And far safer too - no driving!) I know about 50 family members who checked in the day before the wedding to take advantage of the great set up.

*Kudos as well to the front desk staff for dealing with handing out all the "wedding favour" bags for hotel desks - they never got grumpy or flustered! (Especially the young lady w/ bright red hair - very friendly and professional!)

Overall - great deal with price and value. Good Breakfast and clean , comfy rooms. Great location!

Room Tip: ask for a king suite

We visited this hotel in May 2011 and had the best time. It's conveniently located near a nice mall and restaurants. The hotel itself is nicely kept and staff is very friendly. This hotel comes equipped with internet, full breakfast bar, excellent workout room, nice size pool and hot tub. It's unfortunate the hot tub wasn't working, so that was disappointing. It's easy to get to Chicago from the hotel by train and the train station isn't that far. Don't want to exclude the hotels morning breakfast staff and their hospitality! If it weren't for them, we wouldn't had known what to see in Chicago. This was our first experience with a Country Inn & Suites, but it won't be our last! Thanks to everyone working there!

The pool at this CI&S is the biggest I have ever enjoyed for short laps. The rooms have always been clean, and the breakfast staff very friendly. The Belvedere reception adjacent to the CI&S puts cones at end of parking lot lanes, preventing hotel guests from using the front lot. There has been no effort to assist guests with the problem so far. I have contacted the chain to recommend changes to valet parking with Belvedere. I have stayed at this hotel about 10 times, as it is close to family. However, the parking issue may prevent me from returning.

Room Tip: The pool, fitness room and breakfast room are on the first floor, so I would avoid being on that flo...

Thank you very much for your kind comments about our hotel and staff, and we are particularly glad that you found our indoor swimming pool to your liking. We agree that our breakfast hosts, like all the staff, do and excellent job helping to ensure that our guests have a wonderful experience while staying with us.

I do apologize for any inconvenience that you had in the parking area. We are continually attempting to reach out to our neighbors for the mutal benefit of all of our guests, and are working towards a solution to the occasional Saturday evening parking situation.

We certainly hope to see you soon, and that the occasional parking inconvenience will not preclude you from allowing us to serve you while you are in the area again.

Perfect place to stay for wedding reception. Hotel is connected to Belvedere hall. Definitely would advise staying at this hotel for convenience. Suites were large, comfortable and quiet. Breakfast included in price, first morning was eggs, muffins, ham, waffles etc. Second morning was scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon....definitely well worth the price. Discounted price for wedding stays and Carlson members. Also has a sports bar right next to it for late night partying. One thing is that even though it is attached to a strip mall, parking on nights of events is crowded so get back early.

Thank you very much for your kind words about your stay with us, and we could not agree more that we are the perfect place to stay while attending a wedding reception at the adjacent banquet hall. The ease of convenience by being connected with a common walkway, discounted wedding party rates, and our great complimentary breakfast makes us the only choice for those attending any social function in the area.

Thank you once again for allowing us to serve you, and we hope to see you very soon!

We just returned from staying at this location. We arrived about 11am and asked if our room was ready, they said yes but since it was before noon we would be charged $10.00. REALLY!!!! When we asked them to explain they were so rude, it was like they were going out of their way to explain. We were then rudely told they would waive this time but next time we would be charged. Oh don't worry we won't be back.

Thank you for your comments about your stay with us. I do apologize for any inconvenience that was caused, or for any rudeness that may have been exhibited towards you by any member of the staff.

I am sorry that you may have not been offered an explanation for the modest charge added for both a 3 hour early check-in, or an extended check-out, which I understand was waived for you. Hotel metrics are based upon a certain number of hours stay (in our property 3PM check-in and Noon check-out), and guestroom rates are based thereon. Consequently, additional hours reflect additional costs for utilities, etc. upon which the small fee is based.

I sincerely hope this provides you a better understanding of the modest fee we charge, but if there are still questions feel free to contact me at any time.

We do hope to see you again, and it would be our pleasure.

Stayed here for one night for a concert in the immediate area. The location is perfect with an ATM, breakfast joint, sports bar and convenience/liqour store all within walking distance. Was unexpectedly upgraded to a suite which was a very nice surprise. Front desk staff was very friendly and had helpful hints about the area. Pool and hot tub was very nice but the exercise room is kinda lacking. Bed was super comfy but the TVs could use upgrading. All in all we would definitely without a doubt stay here if our travels brought us to the area again.
