“Wonderful place, wonderful owners, great experiences”

I stayed here once with my girlfriend in 2010 and once with my family in 2011 and are planning to go back in 2012. The cabins are very spacious and are surrounded by beautiful scenery. The property itself can be hiked along a trail which offers an opportunity to see each cabin and the Dart's (the owner's) numerous animals. They are pet friendly and charge no extra fees so long as you clean up after your pet. I constantly recommend this place to friends and family and will continue to do so.

Room Tip: If you've got more than 3 people try to get a bigger cabin than the basic two for a more comfort...

My sister and I stayed at the Eagle's Landing cabin this past Saturday. It was money well spent. The cabin is beautiful. The owner, Dixie is the greatest. The whole place is fantastic. We walked through the other cabins as their vacationers checked out and they are ALL nice! And nicely priced to I might add.
Garden Of The Gods, Pound Hollow, Rim Rocks, Cave In Rock, all right there. Horse rental, hiking, swimming, the entire package.
We have just changed our traditional girl trip destination to Rim Rock's Dogwood Cabins!!!

My husband and I wanted an intimate fall wedding with close family members, and this proved to be a beautiful venue. We rented a few of the cabins, one for us, and then others for each side of the family. The smallest cabin (Cougar's Den) was cozy and romantic. There is a large screened in porch, a small sitting area and kitchen (small stove, small refrigerator), and a loft bed. The Eagle's retreat where a large group of family members stayed, has one bedroom, a pull out couch, and a loft with several beds. The extensive porch and fire pit area were wonderful at night for additional gathering space. Space in some of the other cabins was a little tight for 4 adults to sleep comfortably. It would be perfect for families with children or groups that know each other well, but might be a bit much if you are really in need of personal space. It was wonderful that all of the cabins allow dogs (2 maximum per cabin) (but for those visitors with allergies, the cabins were very clean and I didn't notice any pet hair on the floor). All of the cabins have a fire pit, a picnic table, and a large porch.
The cabins were directly across the street from the Rim Rock hiking trail, which leads to Pounds Hollow Lake. The hiking trail was beautiful at this time of the year, and the lake would be perfect for swimming in the warmer months (dogs not permitted on the beach). The cabins are a short drive from Garden of the Gods and wine trails as well (though I think a higher density of wine trails exists in the Southwestern part of Illinois, and is about an hour drive on country roads from these cabins).
However, the best part of the property is the gazebo surrounded by 3 of the smaller cabins and the adjacent forest. It has 4 large picnic tables, a grill, and electrical outlets. It is a great place for a small wedding, a family reunion, or a weekend among good friends. I would recommend renting all of the cabins in this area if you want to use the gazebo so that you can stay out as late as you want and avoid waking up those enjoying nature in the surrounding cabins.
The hosts are friendly but not intrusive. In fact, our cabins were open with the keys in the door when we arrived, so we didn't have to even interact with them at all if we did not want to.

All in all, a beautiful setting and comfortable cabins made for a wonderful weekend!

Room Tip: If you are looking for some privacy, the Cougar Bluff, Bear's Den, and Deer Run are ideal, as th...

I talked several of my friends from school into travelling almost 400 miles from the big city of Chicago to Southern Illinois near my hometown and every minute and mile in that cramped van was worth it. Bob and Dixie were more than accommodating and gave excellent advice on things to do in the area; Garden of the Gods, Cave-In-Rock, Rim Rock Hiking Trail, and even their property alone were all gorgeous and consumed up most of our trip. I was surprised how wonderful it was to stay out there even in the colder months. We will definitely be back in the very near future once the weather gets more sunny. I want everyone to have this experience; family members will definitely be getting gift certificates around their birthdays!

Room Tip: Cougar Bluff, Bears Den, and Deer Run are all backed by the forest, very serene If its a large grou...

We wanted to get out of the big city and take a few days to ourselves before joining the family down south for Thanksgiving. This was the perfect place! The cabin was spectacular and we had almost every local attraction to ourselves! We were the only ones in Cave-in-Rock, which was eerie and cool and the same time. We were also the only visitors on the Rim Rock trail and at the Iron Furnace, and we saw only two other families at Garden of the Gods. We loved hanging at the cabin at night, slept wonderfully, and our dog loved the daily walks to visit all of Bob and Dixie's animals! They are wonderful hosts, and they have a wonderful slice of heaven here with well-appointed cabins! We stayed in Eagle's Retreat and we can't wait to come back!

This was our second trip to the cabins. Beautiful is the only word. Quite... Great hiking trails, small towns to explore. We have seen spring and fall...now we want to plan a winter trip..We can go back and back and not see everything the area has to offer. Dixie and Bob are great hosts and make it a point to visit and talk like they have known you for year.

Room Tip: Cabins of every size..for two or more.

We stayed in Deer Run cabin. My wife and I got to enjoy the coziness of the 4 foot high loft. It is too bad that we only had one night to stay here. We were the only ones at the cabins that night. Had a wonderful camp fire. Walked thru the cemetery in the dark. Had a great conversation with Dixie, Bob and the dogs. Gave us great information on hiking for the next day. Bob and Dixie provided everything we needed.
