“Solid - but Typical - Breakfast”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

This restaurant was good, but it was not great. We went on a Saturday morning for breakfast and the place was packed. There was a wait to get a table, so we suspected that this was the place to be for breakfast.

Food was good, but not any different than typical greasy-spoon and/or family restaurant style breakfast places. I'd seen the same menu a number of times at various establishments. The food was not bad, but just didn't stand out. Biscuits and gravy were typical, but the apple cinnamon pancakes were indeed quite delicious.

Restaurant decor is a bit dated. Good prices, service is a bit strange at times. But overall good experience.

“This place is a hidden gem!!!”
Reviewed December 13, 2012

Greek owned family restaurant. Not like any other because they still cook in the kitchen!! No frozen, watery, bland, tasteless food here!!! Everything is handmade! If you are lucky enough to visit in the summer, you're vegetables that you eat are from their HUGE garden...right outside the window! Each time we go we always start our meal with fried zucchini and ranch dip...WOW!! On Thursdays they have Greek night..spanakopita, moussaka, pastitsio, greek chicken, incredible grilled lamb chops...but most of all...these are family recipes!!!! Not frozen delivery meals! Seriously, everything is delicious..paninis..yum! As far as the family is concerned...my son can get pancakes for dinner and my daughter can have soup and salad..so everyone is happy! The prices are so low, I don't know how they do it! The wait staff is a well trained group..always friendly always fast and my water glass never stays dry..they are always on top of your comfort and happiness! The owner is always watching to make sure everyone is being taken care of and greets everyone. You feel as though you're part of a really large family....but everyone gets along! HA! These places don't exist anymore...please don't ever leave!

“Great restaurant”
Reviewed December 3, 2012

I think the review by DasFoodCritic is listed under the wrong restaurant. There is no Bennigans across the street or anywhere near Pauls.
My husband and I have been going there for years and while the clientele is older the food is consistently good and contrary to some of the reviews below the waitresses are great and I know for a fact that the cakes are made there.

“Good Food at Reasonable Prices”
Reviewed December 3, 2012

We have been going to Pauls for at least ten years. This is a 'home cooking' type of place and does skew to the older crowd. The food is excellent: the turkey dinner is especially good. The menu includes everything from prime rib to BLTs. They always have numerous specials. The salad and soup is included: the chicken rice soup is very very tasty. They even include dessert on Sundays. We have tried several of the cakes in their desert showcase but you can avoid those. We have always experienced great service. Recommended for a casual place in the Elgin area.

“SHOULD GET A .000000001 STAR”
Reviewed November 8, 2012

Don't ever eat here. I am not sure if they even cook the food. My fettucine alfredo was chewy and the alfredo sauce was watered down. My french onion soup looked like a mix of tobacco chew and hot dog water. It smelled just as bad too. The salad there was probably from 1982 and the dressing was water with some mayo stirred in. A friend asked for sauteed chicken and he got charcoal. Another friend didn't even get his food after 45 minutes. The server seemed like she hated life and everyone she saw. The garlic bread was toast with god knows what on it. The vegetables that come with the steak are either the frozen or canned mixed vegetables that you got in school lunch. The best thing they gave you was the dinner rolls which they probably ordered from the Bennigans across the street. The pie was not even made there. You could see the price tags ripped off of the plastic cake containers. The food was not worth the above average price and I HIGHLY recommend NEVER going here.
