“Just to clarify”
Reviewed August 21, 2011

I have recently visited don pedros again and it is still amazing! I am now a couple hours away from it and so i do not get to eat there much = [ i have tried to find a place in southern illinois to compare and i cannot find anything to match it! I read through the reviews and came across a negative review that had some misleading information. Taqueria don pedro is not a bus stop nor was it set up by the owners for buses. Buses rarely stop there and when they do they are in and out in less than 30 minutes so not to worry. Also, it isn't fast food, the place is a little diner. In mexico, if you have been there, they are called fondas and are all over the place. Just little family owned diners that the neighborhood goes to eat. The food here is seriously good and seriously authentic, the service is great and the atmosphere is very casual and "homey". I recommend it to everyone who lives in the near by area and some who dont!

“Amazing!!”
Reviewed August 15, 2011

At the suggestion of friends, we went to Taqueria Don Pedro for dinner on a Friday nite. Was a bit worried when we arrived and there were so few cars parked in the parking lot. Oh wow, Effingham and surrounding areas, you dont know what you are missing!!! SO many mexican restaurants around this area all have the same variations on their menus. NOT this place!! Never been to Mexico, but my sister has and she said its about as close to authentic as you can get around here. Was amazed at the communication and co-operation of this family run business. EVERYone there is SOOOOOO nice! We went back a couple of weeks later and our waitress remember us and commented on things we talked about last time. Definitely try the Hibiscus tea brewed by them, Chiles Rellenos are the best around central IL and the Carnitas are amazing!! Wake up Central Illinois and frequent Taqueria Don Pedro!!!!

“Bus stop fast food”
Reviewed August 2, 2011

Taqueria Don Pedro was set up as a bus stop for interstate buses. Don't go there when a bus comes in. Food is good as far as fast food can go.

“This was the best Mexican food I have ever eaten!”
Reviewed July 28, 2011

I had read the reviews for Taqueria Don Pedro prior to visiting this area and decided to give it a try. It's really easy to get to just off exit 159. A lady brought out chips and salsa first. I loved the salsa; it was spicier than the salsa at El Rancherito or Tequilas . I ordered the burrito platter with Al Pastor filling. It was delicious. The burrito was huge. The platter came with refried beans, rice, lettuce, tomatoe, guacamole, and we asked for hot sauce. She brought out a green sauce that was spicy and an orange sauce that wasn't quite as spicy, but was really good too. The waitress was very attentive and told us that if we liked their facebook page we would be entered into a drawing for a free burrito like the ones we just ate. My husband ordered the burrito platter as well, except he got the chicken filling. I took a bite and it was very good also.

“A Humble, Authentic Mexican Restaurant”
Reviewed February 24, 2011

Just went there yesterday and loved it. A previous reviewer recommended the Pastor and Chorizo tacos and they did not disappoint. This is a humble diner-style joint but the service is wonderful and the food is authentic. Make sure you give it a try if you're in the area!
