“Turtle Experience”
Reviewed March 1, 2014

Went to the turtle sanctuary out of interest of turtles. I admire what the Gentleman is doing to try and save these beautiful turtles. Makes me sad that the locals eat them.

“What a delight”

After 20 years, the owner of the Sanctuary is still passionate about what he does. He is more than happy to show you around and answer questions, which made our visit very enjoyable. A must see when visiting Bequia

“This important effort requires more support!”
Reviewed February 4, 2014

A huge effort to help more turtles survive until reproductive age! Alot is being done with meager means here. But more tanks are needed, water pumps, electric generator, building improvements, and more. This turtle sanctuary deserves more support from wildlife associations and private donations!
Very interesting to visit! Informative for children as well as adults! Did you know that jellyfish are eaten by turtles? That these turtles are not reproductive until the age of 25? That poachers are a huge threat to extinction? That it is of utmost importance NOT TO PURCHASE items made from turtle shells?
This visit was well worth it!

“A must if you enjoy wildlife/conservationist”

Hearing brother King tell his story of how he miraculously was the sole survivor of a ship wreck in his twenties, and the role it played in his conservation efforts to save the sea turtles.

“Buy the T-Shirt and support this effort”
Reviewed January 19, 2014

We dropped in on this place on a round-the island informal tour of Bequia. The sanctuary is a labour of love completely unfunded by any type of governmental or environmental agency and survives on admission fees and the purchase of related souvenirs. And the support dries up for 7 months during the off-season.

The sanctuary harbours endangered hawksbill turtles and their young for years until they reach an age where they can fend for themselves in the wild. It's these type of grass-roots efforts that will make the difference for the worlds' ocean inhabitants in the future. For these creatures to live their full life span of almost 200 years requires our help now. We've already done enough to drive them to the brink.

I have no affiliation with this project but feel strongly enough about it that I will send a small yearly donation to help them in their noble efforts to protect and preserve this turtle species for generations to come. Visit this sanctuary if you can and make a difference!
