“Friendly staff and good portions”

Just one of those places that is reliably good. We had the lamb burger and the beefburger. They come with a modern twist, very meaty and filling. The service is good and it is good value for money.

“Wish this was my local”
Reviewed March 11, 2013

We are now regulars of this lovely pub/restuarant - and let me tell you why!
1 - Staff are friendly, helpful, happy to be there, courteous and do their job well
2 - The food whether it be steak and chips with the huge garlic bulb, with parmesan salad, or the sunday lunch are always amazing. Presented in the same way each time and to the same quality.
3 - The interior of this place is great - quirky pictures where you see something different every time - such as a oil looking painting with a well to do old fashioned image of a lady, but then a block of flats in the background, or david beckham dressed up like a old fashioned lord - wood doors as the bar frontage or tartan carpets and a huge warm fire.

We live around 15 mins from here and often visit once a week. Its best to book at nights or weekends for the restaurant as its always busy but they always offer a seat in the bar if they are full and you just turn up.
Drinks selection is great, menu is frequently changed and always delicious - Poppie is always welcoming and helped us organise our daughters christening meal there with baloons and table confetti etc.
We have been to a number of their special nights such as valentines, mothers day and xmas eve and the quality of the food and service has never let this place down.

I was tempted not to review this place as it will make it even harder to get a table :) But here you go - go and enjoy.

“Bordering on 5 stars, and a great place to eat/”
Reviewed February 27, 2013

We stopped here for some supper last night, and although the restaurant was fully booked (good for a Wednesday night) we were able to eat in the bar. We had only mains - a delicious steak and ale pie and scrumptious smoked haddock gratin. The pie was served simply with (for some) a small portion of extremely good chips and a sort of mushy peas - more crushed, sort of! The fish gratin came with mash and an unusual selection of veg - a welcome surprise from the norm. Beer was good as was the Pinot Grigio. Other food we saw looked really well presented and empty plates pointed to good quality too. Portions may be small for big eaters but we found them perfect. The only real issues were slightly slow table clearance in the bar area and that we couldn't find the switches for the outdoor table heaters. We would definitely recommend and return ourselves if in the area.
