The wine by the glass list is extensive, and if you need more choice, just grab a bottle from the many lining the walls. Seating is cozy and the outdoor patio is a great place to enjoy a summer evening. Service is attentive without being pushy. Great cheese and meat plate for just $20!

Made a visit yesterday afternoon and vowed to come home to write a review. This establishment used to be a charming place to go for a great glass of wine and some light meals and apps. However, last night was a truly the most terrible experience. Out of 5 glasses of wine that our party ordered, three of them had a problem in which we had to go back inside and ask for a new glass! There was lipstick covering the rim of one glass, a long black hair floating on top of my wine in another, and thick black plastic gunk on the last (in which the waitress explained was the mat that the glasses sit on which must have been melting onto the rim). When one goes to a wine bar, you expect a certain care and attention to be given to each glass. Upon discovering the black plastic on the third glass, we finally expressed our disppointment with our experience and were even more angry when not one of the staff members seemed to care. No "Sorry'" or "this one's on us".....NOTHING! The place was not even that busy! When we typically we go, we order a small pizza which is actually quite good, but we could not find it on the menu. When we asked one of the servers about it, he said,"Oh, the extra information probably fell out." he was too lazy to go and get one for us so we just decided to go get dinner someplace else. Overall, service is lacking, staff could care less about your experience, and with so many other good wine bars in nearby suburban downtown areas - guess its time we take our business elsewhere.

It's a nice place to stop for some wine and cheese as an appetizer for dinner.

Had a groupon so made a lunch visit to this small wine cellar in downtown Downers Grove. The sandwiches were very good (did not have wine). It was a Sunday at noon, no one there but us. The waiter was also the cook and he seemed bored to death to be there. Other than that, I would recommend.

Downtown Downers Grove, Illinois, is gaining in charm and vitality each year. We've enjoyed many lunches at the fine restaurants up and down Main Street. We are happy to report of another fine restaurant, Cellar Door. The day was beautiful so we chose to sit outside. It was suggested that we think about the cheese and meat plate. We selected four delicious cheeses and three thinly sliced meats. It came with warm bread and crackers. There were walnuts and dried cherries to decorate the platter and tickle the palate. One of the cheeses, Explorateaur, a French Brie, was absolutely wonderful. My wife liked it so much she asked where she could buy some and was told the store in the next town stocked it. We also had prosciutto and some jambon de pays. It was all wonderful. Of course, we had to have a nice cheery wine. They recommended an Argentinian Chardonay. It was quite good, chilled to be refreshing without blocking the taste. In all it was delightful. The Cheese platter and the two glasses of wine without tip was $37.
