We stayed in the Derbyshire Arms for 2 nights in November 2012. We stayed in one of the large doubles "Fold", Room 5. Our friend stayed in the other large double, Room 4. Both rooms were beautifully appointed, ours was a bit smaller but we cannot fault it in any way. Comfy beds, lovely bathroom, every little detail was thought of. Generous good quality and ethically sourced tea/ coffee and lovely toiletries in bathroom. We were made very welcome, nothing was too much trouble. It was a birthday treat for our friend and the hotel even arranged a birthday cake for us. Cosy bar with a lovely coal fire, the weather was very cold but the hotel was very snug and warm. Food was very good and we ate there both nights. Good breakfasts as well. Very close to Chatsworth( we could have walked it in better weather) and a 3 minute walk to the Chatsworth farm Shop. Cant wait to go back

We have just had an excellent 4 night stay b&b at The Devonshire Arms at Pilsley on the Chatsworth estate, Derbyshire. The room we had was no. 6, (Handley Bottom). a big double with a large bath-room, this room was very clean and warm at all times, also there were two easy chairs and a table, so we didn't have to sit on the bed which was also very comfortable.
We ate in the restaurant each evening and we both agreed the food was excellent, the only thing that concerned us was that you could not reserve a table, but we were assured by Tracy one of the very attentive staff, that a table would be made available fairly quickly in the event of all tables being occupied, as it was we didn't have a problem.
We found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful at all times, we have no hesitation in recommending this establishment. Well done to Simon, Tracy and all the staff at The Devonshire Arms Mark & Johanne Doodson.

Room Tip: From our observations all 7 rooms are of a similar excellent standard.

On checking in,we were given a very cordial welcome & shown to our room. We were in the Redway room which is one of the large doubles and is beautifully appointed, the duchess of Devonshire clearly has very good taste as I believe she helped choose the decor.Pictures speak louder than words so browse my photos attached which shows the room, the downstairs pub (lovely food & open fires, very cosy!),and the view from our room. We found all of the staff to be exceptionally friendly and helpful and the breakfast the next day was delicious. It was an absolute joy to stay here & we intend to return again and again.

There is also the Chatsworth farm shop a couple of minutes away which is worth a visit, and a walk on the Chatsworth estate & a tour of the house and gardens a must. Enjoy!!

Just returned from a wonderful trip to Derbyshire. We stayed at the Devonshire Arms, Pilsley for 2 nights and would definitely return. The room was clean, well decorated and very comfortable.
A few reviews mention the bathroom and they could not be more right; it was spacious and immaculate with warm fluffy clean towels. Even though our room was not the largest it was perfectly adequate. The staff and manager Patrick were friendly and welcoming. We loved the breakfast, as well as the food served at other times.
When my husband told me where he had booked, i was a bit sceptical, but I was very pleasantly surprised.

The room was a pleasure to stay in. Friends in another room were equally happy. We ate off the very good menu twice for supper. Breakfast excellent. There has been a change in management recently and we found the manager Patrick to be very welcoming and keen for us to enjoy our stay. Simon behind the bar was excellent also.

We have wanted to visit Chatsworth and surrounding area for ages and got round to it eventually for my Birthday Treat. We booked 3 nights at The devonshire Arms after studying Reviews on Trip Adviser.
We were not disappointed, rooms were very comfortable and cosy, large spotlessly clean bathroom with lovely white fluffy towels replaced daily.
All of the staff were friendly and very helpfull with directions etc.The weather was not very good, rained 2 of our 3 day stay. But it was lovely to come back to Devonshire Arms after long days visiting Chatsworth,Hardwick House,Bakewell and surrounding villages.
Must also mention the lovely breakfasts which included cereals, fruit juice and a full english which set us up for the day
If we are ever in that part of the country again, will most definately stay here if we can get booked in of course.

On a recent visit to Chatsworth we stayed at the Devonshire Arms in Pilsley. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the accommodation excellent and the food delicious - a varied menu and everything beautifully cooked. It was the perfect place to return to after two very wet days sight-seeing!

Room Tip: Check out the website, which gives descriptions of the rooms and prices.
