This was a truly unique and beautiful place to lay our heads after an exhausting and exhilarating trip up the nearby Cotopaxi volcano… A stunning approach up a long sweeping drive and you are greeted by four warm staff, wreathed in smiles and immediately taking our bags and showing us up to our wonderful (set of!) rooms. They also knew our names already which was a lovely touch - they'd taken the time to work out who was arriving. Our two rooms were incredible - we had the main suite with beautiful views on to the front and back of the hotel, with its blissfully laid out and well-kept gardens - complete with hummingbirds buzzing around which you could watch from the inside while sitting in front of the wood-burning stove and sipping a fennel tea. There are wonderful paintings and sculptures everywhere and the hacienda offers an immaculate restaurant with a delicious lunch, dinner and breakfast menu. My sister was unfortunately very ill the next morning with gastric issues and the wonderful staff didn't hesitate to organise a trip to the doctor and also loaded us up with oregano tea for our onward journey. Even poorliness didn't take the shine off our experience. Unforgettable!More

A magical place you'll remember forever!

During a two week trip to Ecuador, we spent two separate nights at this great hotel. It positioned us well for treks up Cotapaxi and down Quilatoa. Both were amazing experiences. At the hacienda, we were treated to excellent service, great food, and on one of the evenings traditional live Andean music.

Room tip: For family we found spacious adjoining rooms with fireplace!

Historic place well maintained

We were here for lunch with our family and some friends. The Hacienda is really well maintained though some details need to be fixed. The food was good and the service excellent. The driveway is stunning and it seems to take you to another time.

Grand hacienda in a tranquil setting

This old hacienda is a step back in time and well worth the detour (and expense) for the budget conscious traveller. We spent a single night there and the room, building and grounds were well kept and like being in a museum.

The meals were quite good but simple.

Phenomenal History

An amazing property with incredible history that seems to ramble on forever. The central garden is beautiful and artisans can be found working in the back courtyard.Our dinner was delicious and the service made us feel like we were in a 4 store hotel. The room was large and very comfortable.

Wonderful Family Lunch

Had the pleasure of visiting Hacienda La Cienega for lunch. Firstly, the drive way as you enter is absolutely stunning with huge Eucalyptus Trees which leads to the main house.

We were seated at a nice table and were greeted warmly by the staff. The waitress that took care of us was very nice and caring and it was impressive that she had been there for 25 years.

The food was amazing, I had the Avocado with Shrimp as a starter and it was delicious. For the main course I had Corvina with Seafood which was prepared in an aluminum foil packet. All of the flavors from the food were great.

Having great food in a beautiful setting along with excellent customer service makes for a great time. The only regret is that we could not stay longer.

I travel to Ecuador frequently so I hope to be back.
