Shawnee Hill Bed and Breakfast

We moved our son to SIU last week and stayed at the awesome B&B. the owners were great to deal with. This is much better than staying in a hotel if you don't mind the short drive down US 51. Very comfortable accommodations and very nice deck off of the log cabin. Would definitely go back!

We booked at 11:30 p.m. The night before arrival as a last minute get away. We were greeted upon arrival by the sweetest lady. The cabin was small but perfect for the two of us. The breakfast tray was awesome. We will be going back for sure!!

This is really more like 4.5 stars. We stayed two nights at this B and B while visiting friends in the area. we stayed in the country cottage. the innkeepers were not in when we arrived, but left the key in the door so we could access our room. There are 3 total rooms on this property. Two in a sort of duplex across from the main house and the "cabin" which is attached to the main house. Our room was a very good size. It was decorated in a very cute way and had most everything you would need. We had a table, a few chairs, couch, and bed. The bathroom had a shower and large tub. In the room, you get a some wine glasses, cheese cutting board and knife, and wine opener (would have like a beer bottle opener). Bathroom has plenty of bath supplies (lotions, bubble bath, shower gel, etc,..) in case you forgot something. The room was clean. I take off some minor points for the room for two things. first the hair dryer needs to be wiped off - the handle was sticky (like somebody dried their hair and got styling gel all over the handle - yuck) and I didn't use it because of this. 2nd- the temperature control is in the adjoining guest cabin. kind of strange - no one was in the room at the time, so we easily adjusted the temperature, but I don't know what you would do if you needed to adjust the temp if someone was staying in that room. But overall, I was pleased with our room. and the price was nice.

We had full breakfast one of the two days we were there. It was really good and really filling. We had a dutch apple pancake, blackberry cobbler, bacon rolls, banana nut muffins, juice, and coffee. Awesome, but I hate to even think about the calories I consumed during that time. The innkeepers are super friendly and we enjoyed talking to them. Also to note - a big lab lives on the premises - nice dog who likes to visit with you.

The property itself is lovely. It poured, so we didn't walk around and see it but I wished we could have. Its something like 150 acres. This is in the woods, but really you are not so far off the beaten path. I deduct some other minor points because the road leading to this B and B needs some repairs - holes filled in, gravel, etc.... we made sure to go slow when we came in.

Finally, while we were not in the area for the wineries, you really are close to a bunch of them. I think owl creek being the closest. You can't go wrong with this location if you are wanting the local wines.

This is the B&B that we compare all others against. If it doesn't meet these standards, we don't ever go back or recommend to anyone. Haven't visited lately, but we've been for years & years with friends & by ourselves, and have never been disappointed. We're stayed in all rooms & each is special. Nothing to do except drink GREAT wine, visit friends (or just ourselves) and commune with nature. Beautiful life. The owners are absolutely the most gracious hosts, have some of the best breakfasts and are so interesting to talk with. Walk to the cave by all means. Those claw-foot tubs (& hot tub) have every amenity one could need. Each room has everything from fresh fruit, to chocolates, to magazines to movies (as if one would actually want such a thing). Beautiful table settings -different each morning you eat breakfast--so you don't get bored!!! If you go back, the owner knows what she fed you before, asks if you want different foods or some of the same. We ALWAYS take her bacon casserole. Wonderful wineries nearby, great antique shops, GREAT food at the Giant State Park lodge. Relax & enjoy life here.

We stayed at the Shawnee Hill B & B for three nights during our visit to the wine trail. We researched most places of lodging in the area before deciding on this one. It was the right choice and just perfect! Our cottage felt so cozy and homey with all the antiques and decor. The owners provided every little amenity we could possibly need for our stay. The location was in the country, but right in the middle of the wine trail and lots of restaurants. We can't imagine that any other B & B serves such a wonderful breakfast as this one. We'll be back and we'll tell all our friends about it.

We've come to love Shawnee Hill B&B over the years. My husband and I have brought friends and family with us to enjoy this restful, charming B&B set in the Shawnee Hills of Illinois! It's a nice, quiet get-away that isn't far from our home near St Louis. The rooms are lovely, the grounds hikable, and the breakfast is always fantastic!

Visited this beautiful B&B and stayed in the Log Cabin Room for our anniversary. We were greeted warmly by the owner and shown to our cabin which is connected to the main house by a hallway and common use room. I can't say enough about the Cabin. It was beautifully decorated, extremely clean and cozy. They have thought of everything to make it special. From special soaps and lotions, bathrobes, even chocolates. The cabin has a large private deck overlooking the beautiful Shawnee Forest. Breakfast was included and set outside our room at a time we chose. Pancakes and fresh strawberries. Delicious! Don't miss this place.
