Perfect location but terrible rooms. Poor selection of breakfast, you make your own coffee, which would be fine if i was not paying 90 euros/night. No wifi and tv, which does not leave many options for in-room entertainment. But also not soundproof rooms, so you can hear everything. Sheets and towels are clean, but totally worn out, with holes etc. The bathroom, not comfortable at all. This hotel is the worst hotel i have ever been, in this price rate.

Dear Madam,
You mention the quality of the location. Indeed, we are located in a very nice area of the village, with magnificent views, and the house is a traditional house built in 1840 and transformed into a hotel a few years ago. This two factors explain the relatively small size of the rooms and a price which is probably higher than for cubes of concrete in the middle of the countryside.
Wifi and TV are our choice, of which we always inform our guests before arrival.
The breakfast provides as a standard ham and cheese, orange juice, bread, filter coffee and different sorts of tea and, depending on the inspiration of our chef, a nice selection of home-made pastries : apple-pie, fig-pie, apricot-pie, cookies, croissants, brioche, cakes, or brownies.

For other types of coffee, we do provide them, with no extra-charge. It sometimes happens that guests prefer to prepare them themselves. It is probably what happened during your stay.

As for the rest of your comments, we try our best to keep high standards. Again, do not hesitate to inform us about your dissatisfaction at the time of your stay because we are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay in our hotel, as we try always to do our best for our guests.

Stayed here in October 2011 for ten nights with partner and a friend. Low season of course so I cant say how things are in other seasons, but it was very good value. Chora town is beautiful, and is actually a township rather than given over to tourists.

The room we stayed had a small porch, so pleasant to sit out there in the afternoons and take in the sweeping view. Basic furnishings, but all comfortable and clean. The hotel itself is clean, interesting, well maintained, and with a very interesting history of ownership.

Breakfast is largely home cooked by the owner, and always fresh and tasty. The dining area is lovely with either inside or outside dining depending on the weather.

Staff are very friendly and dont at all intrude upon guest's space, but yet everything gets done.

Being low season we were the only ones at the hotel, so perhaps have a rather privileged view of it, and too why it was such value for money. However I can only recommend it.

Room Tip: Aphrodite room has the bacony with the best view.

We stayed at Margarita Hotel for 5 nights mid Septmeber. It was right in the heart of Chora. The owner was very welcoming and friendly. He is French. He makes a wonderful home made breakfast that is served on the terrace wich has a wonderful view. We were travelling with another couple and we had 2 rooms with views that looked out over the countryside below. One of the rooms had a lovely Juliette balcony.
The Hotel was an old Mansion , now converted, but it has that old world charm.
At this time of year this Hotel was quiet. There were only a few other guests. It was a great place to base ourselves for exploring this Island. You really need a car to get around Kythira.

In Chora, there are shops, Banks, several cafes, a few restaurants and a modern Bar called Fos Fanari which had free wifi as the Hotel did not have wifi and only had a computer for guests to use in the reception area.

If you are not a beach person and you have a car to get around, this is a comfortable place to stay.

There was clearly some effort put into this hotel, and it is atmospheric. Although our room was quite basic, it was clean and functional, and we did glimpse some rooms that looked quite beautiful. I really loved the breakfasts though, homemade and fresh every morning on the beautiful patio. Because we stayed here in August, I thought it was overpriced for our room, but if you have a good deal for this, I would definitely recommend Margarita Hotel and beautiful Kythira. One thing that made this hotel stand out for us though was that we had to leave very early in the morning to catch a ferry, and the owners left some delicious brioche for us, which was delicious and very much appreciated whilst waiting for a ferry at 5:30 am! This hotel stand out for the extra personal touches such as that.

I stayed in Margarita Hotel a few summers ago, but I still remember how lovely the building was. Very close to the main road, but still very quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Not to mention the breakfast and the service. All in all it was a remarkable stay and I would totally recommend it to anyone visiting the island.

We stayed here for five days. The location is excellent (just off the main street in Hora) and the building itself, a converted 19th century mansion, is impressive. The staff were friendly and helpful (all two of them). Apart from that we were, to an extent, disappointed. The rooms were well appointed but could do with a deep clean - the (one) extra pillow was pretty disgusting - and redecoration. The public areas were well appointed. Breakfast was meagre and very unimaginative. The bar such as it was, closed at 9pm. There is no car parking at the hotel and anyone who knows Hora will know why - this was not a problem for us but this fact should be on the hotel website as indeed should directions. I appreciate that our visit was out of season but a hotel of this class and price should maintain a certain standard no matter what time of year it is. The Margarita was definately below par which is a pity as I am sure it would not take much to improve it. I would recommenmd this hotel but with reservations.

Dear Sir,
We thank you for your useful comments. If you allow us, we will answer now, even a bit late.

We are glad you appreciated the building and the location. Indeed, our Bed & Breakfast is located in one of the most beautiful historical mansion of Chora. We would like to inform you also that a full repainting of the rooms and the public areas has been performed last spring. You may also be interested to know that our new website is full of information and pictures, explaining how to reach the hotel.

As for the breakfast, we are quite surprised by your comments: normally, our home-made pastries, cakes, pies, brioches, are highly praised by all our Guests. Not having more information, we cannot answer on this point.

Regarding the bar, we do not share your point of view with you. Firstly we want to preserve the quietness of the place, and secondly, we have no demand for the bar, even before 9pm. Opening it after 9pm would mean to hire somebody for virtually no sale.
That is why we decided not to open the bar.

What we want our Guests to enjoy in our Bed & Breakfast HOTEL MARGARITA, is the beauty of the place, the magnificent views, the peace around, and the quietness.
We hope to have the opportunity to see you again in Kythira.
Kind regards

My family and I stayed at this charming hotel three summers ago and I would totally recommend it to anyone visiting the island for a short break. We were only there for one or two nights and were delighted with it.

It has a great location, within walking distance of the main town centre, which is itself beautiful. The breakfasts were probably the best we've ever had in Greece, with the French owners being really very friendly.

The only downside is the lack of pool, but as said above, if you're only staying for a couple of nights and don't mind the trip down to the beaches, then this is perfect.
