“Fun Restaurant, Fun Neighborhood”

The food was very good and local. A small market based menu with gentle prices. It is always great to have very good food at a BYOB. Loved the apple fritters for dessert. Service was excellent and the staff was very friendly.

“Happy to find this neighborhood restaurant”
Reviewed May 5, 2013

We had a very nice evening at Home Bistro, which we found in a deck of "a la card Chicago." Service was excellent. The hostess fit us in at the last minute on a Friday evening, and the server also helped us find vegetarian options. My Vegetable Casserole was different and delicious, a melange of spaetzle and seasonal roasted vegetables, enough for two of us. The two salads, especially the endive, were very good as well. We were less impressed with the gnocchi, which was doughier than usual, but good nonetheless. Remember to BYOB!

This is just an outstanding restaurant. The staff is friendly and a benchmark for service/hospitality. The menu changes often based on whats fresh and the european spin on the classics is fun and always makes it a pleasure to go for repeated visits...

“Okay and Fine”
Reviewed April 3, 2013

So, just not really impressed. It's nice that it's BYOB, if your into that kind of thing. The menu to me just wasn't that impressive. Lot's of fish - no real selection in my opinion.

The place is VERY small. It was also funny/unprofessional that the bus boy and server were arguing over the lighting - they were playing with the dimmer switch all night long. I don't like being sat on top of one another - or no coat check if the space is that small. The table was really for 4 made to accommodate 5 - we were very cramped no personal space, or no room on the table.

For the app we tried the snails - ehhh no wow factor there, and we also ordered the bacon wrapped dates - they were sitting in clumps of brown sugar... not a dusting - was over powering. I had the meatloaf - it was just okay very crispy a tad over done. My friends ordered the pasta dish and were satisfied.

We skipped dessert - the service was slow. We waited a long time for the apps to arrive and then the main dishes came out with about a 5 min lag before the entire table was served. We were also told the next seating was getting anxious to be seated, so we quickly got the bill together and made several attempts to flag down the server with no success. Overall, I think the night was okay, i just don't think I'd come back.
