Lots of problems with our stay at this hotel. Great location is marred by poor service. We waited in line 20 minutes for out breakfast table then were served food but not given any silverware or napkins. Food was cold by the time the silverware arrived. Napkins didn't arrive until we were finished eating. Called down to the valet dek for our car and was told 15 minutes, we got downstairs and no car. It finally arrived 45 minutes after we originally called. We were told repeatedly, it will be 1 minute, 1 minute. There was a leak in the ceiling of our room from the room above which had a problem with the toilet. The solution by the front desk was an ice bucket in our floor with towels around it. Asked to speak to the manager and was told he would get back to us and he never did. There is a serious lack of concern for the guests at this hotel. We travel frequently and almost always stay at Hiltons, this one does not live up to theHilton brand.

My husband and I just stayed at the Hilton Suites just off Mag mile for one night with a great price we got from Priceline.com. What a surprise when we got there! Very spacious family room area, georgous bathroom and larger than most bathrooms at hotels we have stayed at recently, separate private bedroom with a very comfy bed. The views were awesome too! For this room- to stay downtown in a great location like this- we would normally pay over $200.. for the $70 price on Priceline, this couldn't be beat.
We will stay there next time we are downtown now!! Additionally- there is a pool on the 30th floor with jacuzzi which we didn't have time to use- but will next time for sure!!!

We paid: $125 (1 month advance purchase, non-refundable, via Hilton website)
We got: 1 bedroom suite on 17th floor with lakeview
Our family: 4 people (2 adults, 2 toddlers)

PARKING: The hotel ONLY offers valet parking for $50/night (with unlimited in/out privileges) however, if you are NOT planning on leaving and are in for the night to park your car, there is a self-park structure (it looks like a corkscrew that you drive up and then enter the giant black "X" skyscraper directly across the street from the Westin in the JOHN HANCOCK CENTER (which is only feet away from the Hilton). To access this self-park structure, when driving down the one-way to get to the Hilton entrance you will first see the Westin hotel on the left, at this exact point, turn RIGHT immediately past the very large black skyscraper. This will take you to a security gate (they check your trunk) and corkscrew ramp to the parking structure which is FULLY enclosed (no rain, ice, snow) and secure. The rate per 24 hours is $35 - but less if you stay less time (we dropped our car off around 7pm and left around 11am and it was $31) - plus the walk is literally 200 feet and up an elevator from the Hilton entrance, there is NO waiting 25-30 minutes for valet to retrieve your car, and I saw how the valets drove the cars (very rough braking and swerving) & where they parked them (on the street sides) - if you like your vehicle, this is the better option to take! Parking in downtown Chicago is EXPENSIVE - we went to Daley Plaza to see Santa and it was $6/20 minutes to park in the self-park there - you need to allow at least an hour to see Santa too FYI. Ridiculous, but the money we saved on valet just carried over and paid for us to be able to park at Daley (which is the heart of the city). We were able to find free parking on the side of a street (we got VERY lucky) in order to walk to Zoolights at Lincoln Park Zoo...but the valets in town will fight you for every open street side spot so be prepared to drive for awhile (even to find paid parking spots).

CLEANLINESS: The rooms are immaculately clean, there are some scuffs and scrapes, but overall condition as expected from the Hilton chain. You will feel comfortable going barefoot in your suite without worry of catching some odd foot fungus.

BATHROOM: The bathroom is moderately large with a separate vanity & closet area in the bedroom (outside the bathroom, nook off of bedroom). I do like that the bathroom is 2-door accessible from the entry or the bedroom, so it is perfect for 2 couples (or couple with children) since you have privacy and those sleeping on the fold-out bed in the living room can still use the bathroom w/o going through your bedroom! The bathtub is large enough to fit my very pregnant self along with my 2 year old to bathe together - it is not quite a garden tub, but is longer and wider than a normal tub. While showering, I was able to fit both of my toddlers and myself into the shower/tub - but it was a tight squeeze. Crabtree & Evelyn soaps, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion are only provided - no mouthwash or other amenities are included. There is a blow dryer in the drawer.

BEDS: The bedroom bed is EXCELLENT for comfort if you like plush beds, however the fold-out mattress is VERY thin and would not be comfortable for most adults (although suitable for lightweight children).

LIVING ROOM: There is a high counter wet bar on the entry wall adjacent to the door, cabinets below hide a microwave and mini-fridge (unfilled so bring your own snacks). There is a single chair & small sofa (folds out to full size bed) along with a coffee table and along the far wall under the window is a nice sized desk with internet modem. The flatscreen tv is mounted and there are around 15 channels to choose from (including HBO). The wet bar has a coffee maker stocked with 4 kinds of coffee, 1 chamomile tea, and 1 black tea.

BEDROOM: The bedroom is MUCH smaller than the Hilton Homewood 1-bedroom Suites and this is most likely due to the fact that this particular hotel was converted from a Doubletree and was not built Hilton. There is adequate space to walk around the king size bed, with a small nightstand on each side, and a thin dresser with non-flatscreen tv. In other words, the room is only about 3' larger than the king size bed on the 3 open sides. The headboard in our particular room (1702) was sensitive to pressure and when you would lean against it, it creaked - which was annoying to a degree, but the 5 plush pillows helped to lessen the pressure and contact between the wall mounted headboard and us. Bedding was simple, pure white damask stripe duvet cover and sheets - nothing fancy, however clean.

POOL: On the very top floor of the hotel is a large pool (3'-5' depth), spa, sauna, and fitness room. The pool area is air conditioned and pool water was not heated well enough, our toddler only made it waist deep before shaking all over and chilling (this was with wearing a swim bodysuit even). We tried 2 times to no avail. The spa was overcrowded and most kids in the pool area were unsupervised by their seemingly zombie parents - meaning that there were a LOT of large splashes and it was not a family friendly environment. However, the view from the pool area over the city was gorgeous and should be checked out!

SNACKS: Around 8pm, I was ready for a snack! But the "open 6a-9p daily" shop in the Hilton was NOT open at even 6pm, much less 8pm. My husband located an open late newspaper stand with snacks in the American Girl/Macy's mall building 1 block south from the Hilton entrance (just cut through the John Hancock parking entrance area and go straight). There is also a Jamba Juice hidden (subground) down in front of the American Girl/Best Buy entrances to John Hancock building as well as a GREAT breakfast shop where you can get a very large grilled crossiant-wich for breakfast for $5.50 (versus $25 at the hotel, it's even $8 for a box of dry cereal at the Hilton)!!

DINNER: We went to eat over by Lincoln Park - but most places in this city are CASH ONLY (including the 2 hour wait famous Pizza Oven & Grinding Co) so we crossed the street from there to a corner take out shop with a few tables called MELLO'S...their greek is DELICIOUS and priced well at a HUGE plate for $8! We could've split 2 plates for our family of 4...and it was SO YUMMY and fast!! Highly recommended!

From start to finish the staff was very friendly and willing to offer assistance. Rooms very clean. It was just my husband and I so the suite was perfect. It may be small for a larger family. Did not use the pull out couch/bed so not sure how comfortable this would be. The bed and furnishings were very nice. Bar and restaurant was expensive, other good values in the area. Walking distance to all the fine shopping and located right next to the John Hancock Building and a couple of blocks to the Towers Shopping and American Girl Store. Located just 1 block off of Michigan Ave which was perfect and only a few blocks from the Lake. Great to walk either direction from the hotel.

What a disappointment. The ONLY thing this place has going for it is location. Don't look for anything else "special" about this hotel. A real disappointment.

Look at the negatives in the other reviews. And consider them strongly. Very strongly. The people who wrote the negatives about this place in other reviews know EXACTLY what they are talking about.

We would not consider returning to this place, even if the rate was $28/night. That's how disappointing it is. There are too many other places in the neighborhood that offer the benefits of a great location, but offer accomodations and service that are just so far superior to this one.

Oh, and by the way...the beds are extremely uncomfortable. The fold out couch is a definite joke, as others have said. But the beds themselves? Awful.
