“Great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2012

Centrally located with easy accessibility the Silversmith provided comfortable accomodation for our work/visit time in Chicago. Staying on the 10th floor in the rear of the building kept us away from the noise of the L which is conveniently located just steps away. Our room and bath were large enough, clean enough and comfortable enough. Every sort of restaurant is within walking distance as well as stores to pick up forgotten or needed necessities, like Target or CVS.

Room Tip: The higher the floor the better and a room in the rear is best

This is the second time I have stayed at the Silversmith. The accomodations are great - rooms well appointed and clean. You need to be OK with noise from the L, but otherwise this hotel offers first class accommodations at very reasonable rates. Very close to many of the key attractions in the Loop. Lots of food options nearby and easy access to public transportation.

I was thrilled with my stay at the Silversmith. The building was beautiful and the service was excellent. I mean it when I say excellent. During a three day stay, every single hotel employee was happy, pleasant and incredibly accommodating. They really went out of their way. Couple that with the economy of the place (price-wise) and it's a steal that can't be beat inside the loop.

We arrived well before check-in and the front desk managed to get us settled into a room anyway so that we could start our sightseeing. The concierge and porters were always quick to help. When we requested an extra blanket it was at our door in five minutes. We asked the front desk late at night to ask about places that would deliver, and they not only had suggestions, but copies of menus that we could take back to the room with us. At the end of our stay, they held our luggage while we hit a few last sights, then offered to call us a car service back to the airport (which we declined--we're public transportation travelers). I cannot say enough good things about the staff at the Silversmith.

The hotel itself is in a historic building, and has been wonderfully maintained and thoughtfully updated. The bathrooms are particularly large with modern updates. The beds and pillows were high end and we got good nights' sleep while we were there. The place was also super quiet. If there were other guests in the rooms near us, we never heard them.

All in all, I would not hesitate to return there or to suggest this place to someone else. The staff was stellar, the hotel comfortable and close to public transportation and many of the city's major sights.

After much hotel research, I was thrilled to find something that served our quirky needs for a king/queen bed or two doubles for my husband and I and a sofa or pullout for our teenager. The king suite was perfect, though small, had a huge bathroom and spotless decor. The place is low key, which we appreciate, with just-right service from the staff. Can't beat the location for quick dining options, culture on Michigan Ave., and shopping on State St. We like avoiding corporate chains, and so we will be back.

Room Tip: Rooms on the west side are quieter.

I booked this hotel last minute on Priceline for an evening in the city. The understated entrance led to an elevator, which took us to the second floor lobby. It is a large, simple space, filled with old world charm, lots of wood, and a very friendly staff.

The room was large, especially by Chicago standards, and the king sized bed was very comfy. The hotel was very clean, and well appointed. They have complimentary wi-fi, which is hard to find at some of the larger hotels in the area. The only negative is that the older elevators are a bit slow.

The location is excellent; close to public transportation, with lots of places to walk to, if you wish to explore the city. Chicago's famous State St. is just one block to the west, and Michigan Ave. is just one block to the east. You can walk to theater or take a stroll on the lakefront.

I will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Try to get a room away from the elevated train tracks for a quiet sleep.

Would definitely stay here again. Everyone was so friendly, the rooms were so comfortable, and the location can't be beat. We did have a room on the train side. It didn't bother me but you might want to bring earplugs. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the room, the lobby, - I'm kind of a stickler for that.

I was in Chicago to attend a wedding. I needed a handicap-accessible room. The facility far exceeded my expectations. These were the best accommodations of any hotel I have experienced. The room was beautiful. The father of the bride mentioned how easy it was to work with the management to provide a block of rooms. The location was perfect for seeing Chicago. The bell staff were amazing. I had two carts full of equipment, and they were extremely attentive with unloading and loading the van. I would make this my first choice for all my Chicago travel.
