Really great family friendly hotel. Staff very helpful and polite - esp welcoming at breakfast (Ismerta loves kids). Rooms clean and small kitchens great - they let you take milk, yoghurt and fruit from breakfast. Pool for kids on top floor a real plus. Great location. We'll be back!

Could not have asked for a better hotel for our trip. We booked a two bedroom suite, which was bigger than most apartments. The beds were comfortable, living area large and inviting, the kitchen was perfect for our needs. The fridge even has an automatic ice maker. It takes a while to get going, but once it did, we had plenty of ice for our three night stay. Employees are incredibly friendly, especially the doormen.

The only negative, is the expensive parking...ouch...but we understand that this is typical for Chicago.

We would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again.

My immediate family as well as my mother stayed at this establishment for a graduation at Navy Pier, and couldn't have been more pleased. Location was great, and the room comfort and size was even better. For this price don't expect views ANYWHERE in downtown chicago, but we hadan awesome room on the 14th floor and felt like we could talk with residents in the next building over and had a great view of the Hancock Center, top to bottom. I was impressed considering the density and size of most buildings downtown. The ONLY draw back was one rude nightstaff person that refused to help, but will not judge all the other friendly and accomodating staff based on ONE rude person. Hope to stay at RIDC again

My husband and I had to find short term housing when our condo caught on fire during the summer. Staying out in the suburbs wasn't an option for us, so the Res Inn on Walnut made the most sense. Plus, they are dog friendly. While the circumstances of our stay put a damper on everything, we managed to make the most of spending a month in a hotel.

The staff was very friendly and helpful throughout our entire stay. The king suite was very roomy and comfortable. Lots of places to throw our stuff and hang our clothes. The bathroom/vanity area had lots of drawers to store all of the items we needed for the month. The internet was free and easy to use. It was helpful to have an equipped kitchen so we could make our own meals. They provided towels, clothe napkins, etc... Although I don't think they had dishsoap....that would have been helpful.

They also had activities from time to time in the lobby. Whether it be a "nacho bar Thursday" or "guest appreciation cocktail hour", it was nice to have events built into the week.

This is a good hotel if you're traveling w/a group or over a longer duration of time. It's near a lot of main bus lines and not too far from the L. Plus, Oak St Beach is right around the corner! It's also easy to get to the bike path.

After many hours of reading reviews of many choices I picked the best Hotel for us. Everyone was so helpful and extremely nice. The room was awesome, clean, great view, fantastically comfy beds, wonderful breakfast. A few quirky things happened like our room key didn't work a few times I think because it was held next to a cell phone, a no no, it will delete your room info. We had to call the main desk from our 21st floor elevator phone for help, they were there within seconds to help us. No worries, you have to have ID though before they will let you in the room, or get it once the door opened, a good policy I must say. And the hot tub closed early one night for maintence when we really needed it. The next day they must have put too many chemicals in it cause my legs to break out and itched terribly. I didnt go back in it after that. We ate breakfast on the suite side. There is a definet difference from the residence and the suites in the lobby and the breakfast. The difference is in the comfort of the chairs in the eating area and computer area, not the staff though. Upon our departure we had several hours before our train departure. They were without question happy to hold onto our luggage after check out while we continued to shop Michigan Avenue. This was a wonderful experience. Save yourself any further checking into other hotels, this is your best bang for your buck. I'm very frugal and picky too.

The hotel is on Walton, the next street south of Oak, and located midway between the Drive and Michigan Avenue. In the dead of winter, we easily walked to the Drury Lane Theater at Water Tower Place and to the Spiaggia restaurants: 5 minutes tops.

Over the holiday week, the place was jammed with families enjoying the city And several dogs were to be seen, but we heard not one.

Our high, north-facing room was spacious and bright, with a full kitchen and breakfast bar. The 'fridge was a great place to store leftovers, which we reheated in the microwave for lunch a couple of days later.

The free breakfast buffet was surprisingly good and hearty, lacking only bacon which only my wife missed. We made waffles our last morning there. The other mornings were standard American fare for me and yogurt concoctions for her...all washed down with good hot, fresh coffee or tea. Free newspapers made it feel like home. Note: the breakfast area can get crowded after 8:30 if the hotel is stuffed full of guests.

Staff is courteous, helpful, and friendly, and the price was very right. I should state that this is not a place for hotel snobs, but if you want to save $$$ to pay for the city's pricier restaurants, this is the place to lay your head down.

Only two complaints:
1. Wimpy shower
2. Sucky wi-fi system, just like our recent Marriott stay in Pasadena. By way of comparison, in between Marriotts, we stayed at a hotel in Palm Beach and I was on line in 30 seconds.

While the rooms are newly renovated with nice living room area open to wonderful kitchen space fully stocked for extended stays ie dishes, silverware, glasses, pans, utensils, full size refrig, microwave, small dishwasher, small oven and two or four electric burners, etc. the layout/design with placement of bathroom is extremely poor and undesirable! Don't care if you are staying with your long time spouse, family members, date or friends, who in the world thought ANYONE would want to exist from tiny combo tub/shower with tight fitted toilet to a FULLY EXPOSED raised sink and mirror, open across from kitchen and living room areas???!!! Not to mention you will boil in the tight tub/shower/toilet room with no fan with no room to move, to stepping out into freezing open sink/mirror tiny exposed cube area. Most anyone will have to lean into the mirror to shave or women apply makeup over the deep counter top, WATCH your ELBOWS on the raised sink bowl, unless you are really tall ! If you forgot something from your suitcase in the bedroom, let's run in front of everyone around wall into bedroom and back again to sink/mirror. On top of all that, their towels are smallish, thin and rough.

Moving on from the lack of bathroom privacy and proper space to function. The separate bedroom is spacious with plenty of closet space and one dresser with few drawers that the large flat screen hdtv sits atop. Therefore, not much drawer space or counter space because of tv on top. BUT what about A mirror anywhere in the bedroom (I could find a few places to put some sort of dressing mirror, maybe on back of bedroom door, you think?), being that there is only one mirror publicly exposed, nope, UGH?!?! The mattress is rock hard, maybe they start out this way being that's it's new, therefore when they age they become softer (not much I wouldn't think though).

If you want ice, our experience with two separately booked rooms, there are no hallway machines you have to call the front desk. They will tell you there are ice trays, nope, that we have to turn the freezer ice machine on and flick the bar, no ice 8 hrs later. FINALLY they will deliver small bag of ice to your room if you persist, persist right up front if you ever want ice!

The breakfast was just ok but it's free so cannot complain. The lobby/check-in area is tight and can get very crowded with luggage, luggage valet roller units, people lined up trying to fight to fit onto two very small elevators, people waiting for their cars, people trying to come in to register or check-out, etc. No wonder the two snuggly fit check-in/out agents at small counter are not in such a friendly mood or willing to answer questions, they have to move you!

Sorry to say we will not be returning to this Marriott Residence Inn Mag Mile and defnitely will not recommend to anyone!
