Stayed for three days and ended up selling our house unexpectedly ( 500 miles away ) during that time. Staff was AMAZING with their support and assistance. Breakfast and evening meals were beyond our expectation. One of the friendliest hotels we have ever stayed at.

As other reviewers have noted, you can't get much better than this location for the tourist who wants to be downtown near shopping on Michigan Avenue and Oak Street, and taxis are easy to find here too. Great restaurants are within easy walking distance. If you have a car, be prepared for overnight garages nearby that are around $40. Street parking is very limited.

The building is apparently an old apartment house that must have been turned into a hotel many years ago. The room decor is exactly what you'd expect in a Residence Inn: handsome, modern and spacious. The bathroom is a little small and the whole feeling isn't very luxurious but that's not the Residence brand. The in-room kitchenette is a nice feature, as is the better-than-average breakfast served to all guests in the hotel lobby.

But I regret to say that after 3 stays here, I won't return: the first two times I noticed that the two passenger elevators were completely inadequate for the capacity of the hotel. It might have been sufficient when the place was an apartment building, but not now with 15 or more rooms on some (roughly) 20 floors! This meant long waits for elevators during rush hours and having to watch a few elevator cars pass by fully loaded with families with luggage. Then last week during our 3rd stay, one elevator was out for 2-weeks of service, forcing everyone (including hotel maids and other staff) to use the one passenger elevator and the one service elevator. We were forced, as a practical matter, after a 9-minute elevator wait, to walk downstairs with our luggage when checking out. Management could have alerted guests to this beforehand or could have offered a discount or could have acknowledged this problem in a more sympathetic way...but they didn't. The other elevator is slated for repairs soon, so check first!

Good morning. I am happy to report that all three of our elevators will be completed with mechanical renovations as of this coming Wednesday, May 8th! This will provide for a much better experience moving between the lobby and our 19 floors of guest rooms. Thank you everyone for your patience throughout this much needed process.

We stayed here on a family spring break. It was nice to have an extra room to relax and not have to sit on beds. The location was great, on the north end of miracle mile, right by the Hancock and Cheesecake Factory. Only a couple blocks to Watertower Mall. We walked to everything, even Navy Pier, which was more of a hike but doable!

The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was average but was fine for a quick breakfast if you don't want to take the time to eat out every meal. The room was clean but a couple spots (stains) on carpet. Had to ask for enough towels for 4 people but housekeeping responded promptly. Elevators were small and had to wait 10 minutes one morning but it was very busy because of spring break.

Overall we would stay here again. It was a pleasant place.

Dear Christie,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay with us! Our one bedroom suites are perfect for stretching out and being able to convene with family and friends in a seperate space from the sleeping area. We are lucky enough to have 795 sq. feet in our one bedrooms due to the custom nature of our Residence Inn.

As you mentioned our elevators are rather small and slow. We are currently 3 weeks away from completing an elevator renovation that replaces all component parts of our 3 elevators, which will improve speed and efficiency.

I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts with fellow travelers.
Warm Regards,
Lindsy Wnorowski

Perfect hotel for a couple's getaway or a small family. Located a short walk away from all the major attractions, it was nice to park and wander on foot. The only downside is the the parking rate in downtown Chicago is obnoxious.

We were visiting friends one hour north of the downtown area and wanted to spend a couple of night in the heart of the city. Having three children meant we wanted to be able to accomodate them and their needs. Essentially we look for cleanliness, a bit of space, smoke free environments, a food/kitchen area in the room (however small), and breakfast provided by the hotel. This hotel ticked all the boxes. The room was lovely, clean and spacious. There was a fully equipped kitchenette (full fridge, microwave, stove top, dishes, pots/pans, utensils, etc). There was a good breakfast buffet provided and although it was busy, the busiest times were posted in the lifts and in the rooms so that you could decide to set an alarm and get to breakfast before the rush. We beat the rush on the first morning and came in with the rush on the 2nd morning. It wasn't that bad at all. The location is perfect - a mere 4-5 minute walk from the John Hancock building and about the same from Giordano's pizzeria. We tried them but there was a 1.5hr wait (not happening with kids) so we walked another 5 minutes and went to Pizzeria Uno/Due instead. Delicious. Great hotel - would highly recommend it for families. We also noticed they allow pets as there were barks coming from a couple of rooms. Those guests are told to use the service elevators and to be honest, the barking was never a problem. We only heard them in the corridor - never in our rooms.

Room Tip: We never availed of the pool or room service hence the "average" rating. Our room was fac...

We visited this hotel in late March, for a 2 night stay. We had a studio suite for my husband and I and our teen daughter. We arrived in the morning, and check in was simple, and our room was ready, even at mid morning--which was great. We dropped our bags in our room. Somehow, they gave us a handicapped accesiible room..and the door had to be pull-closed everytime we came in the room. It was not an overly spacious room. The bed was really small--I dont even think it was a queen. And, when you pulled out the sofabad--which we needed, there was no room to get around--we had to climb over the end of the sofabed to get to the bathroom. The kitchen was big--and we really just used the fridge. Having breakfast included is always a plus--and it was ok...very busy and they didnt seem to have enough help wo deal with the crowds. The food was not replenished--so it was pretty much every man for himself. The coffee was empty--and I asked for them to refill it...and when they brought the pot back, it was hot water. We are usually happy with Marriott properties, and we couldnt beat the rate we got for the hotel. This one just seemed tired, and understaffed.

Beautiful rooms, great staff, excellent location, above average breakfast, comfy beds, lots of space in rooms --- who could ask for anything more? In room kitchenette was helpful. Michigan Avenue is quite close, the lake is a block away, and the area in which the hotel is located is beautiful. Very easy to catch a cab. Nice place to stay with friends as we could meet in one of our rooms and have a cocktail and not feel crowdwd. Lovely experience staying at this hotel!
