“best chicago hotel”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

my wife and i were making a quick trip to chicago for a cubs game and found the majestic online. all of the other reviews i read were spot on. the service is excellent!!!!! special thanks to mona and cory. the one thing the other reviews didn't really mention was the parking. the majestic has a great deal for parking. we paid $22 for 24 hours with in and out privileges. since we were only in town for the cubs game, we just walked to wrigley. it's a nice walk that only takes about 15 minutes. the area is very friendly and comfortable no matter what time you're out and about. i cannot recommend this hotel enough. we have found our hotel that we'll be staying at in chicago from now on.

Room Tip: with it being a small boutique hotel, i cannot imagine any rooms are bad.

I read all the reviews, looked at all the pictures but got taken away by the word "boutique." I was however disappointed when we actually arrived. We spent five days at the hotel as part of a small sightseeing vacation from NJ. Let me start by saying that we had no major issues or concerns with the hotel -- but based on the hotel marketing and pricing -- we expected just a little more. On the plus side, the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The place is veryclose to the downtown (15 minutes) via the #146 bus which is virtually right outside the hotel. Its a bit of a hike to the red line so definitely take the bus if that works. There are plenty of options for eating within a 5-minute walk and very close to the Halstead bars and shops.

Now for the negatives: The standard queen-sized bed room is on the small side. The bathroom was up-to-date and clean but again nothing fancy -- i wasn't expecting soap / shampoo dispensers in the shower. There were no dressers in which we could put our clothes -- just an open closet space with hangers and a rack. This might sound picky but, the rooms have room air conditioners in the window and the window had very long drapes . So in order to block the window at night, the drapes have to be bunched up and rested above the AC -- I mean really, shouldn't one be able to simply draw drapes at night without having to go through all that? We were on the second floor and could trace every step made by the occupants above due to the creaking -- luckily they went to bed early. Finally, the room was just sad -- lucky for us we just used it to sleep. With a little sprucing up this could actually be a really great hotel.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for staying with us during your most recent visit to our great City of Chicago at the Willows Hotel . We value all forms of guest feedback as an opportunity to continually improve our services and facilities for our guest. It is of great concern that I have learned your expectations fell short of your expectations. Please accept my sincerest apologies that you were left to feel disappointed in anyway.

We are doing a full renovation of all our rooms and common areas which will be completed by the end of October.

We hope to have the opportunity to restore your confidence in the Willows Hotel.

Sincerely,

Keith Scott

Recently stayed four nights at the Majestic. Great neiborhood location in Lakeview. Staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms are a bit small but very well maintained. Entrance and lobby are beautiful. We'll return on our next visit to Chicago. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Pot for a bigger room, if available.

We were looking for a place to stay that was near our son's apartment. Everything about our stay at the Majestic was very good. Parking is nearby and reasonably priced. The room was more than adequately sized and comfortable. The hotel is located just a couple of block from several good eating/drinking establishments on Broadway Street; and only four or five blocks from Wrigley Field and the train. The best part of the stay was the help we got from Mona at the front desk. She was a wealth of information, and even tipped us off to a special dining event at the John Hancock building. We are looking forward to coming back and working with Mona again.

Room Tip: Loading/unlaoding can be a little dicey, but planning ahead will help.

We recently moved from Chicago, and although 3 of the 8 years I lived in Boystown, this little hidden treasure was not on my radar until this week. My boyfriend and I were planning a trip back to visit and decided to treat ourselves spontaneously to a hotel. I actually rejected this place initially, figuring that if it was cool I would already know about it. I took a chance on the room and we could not have been more happy with the Majestic! It is nestled in a tiny section of town right between fun restaurants and the lake. Being former Chicagoans, we kept on saying how much it felt like we still lived there. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful, the rooms were small but very clean and we even found street parking right around the corner that was free although the hotel has a parking garage that you can pay for. Needless to say, we will be back. I am so glad we took the chance!

We snagged a room last-minute for a concert at Wrigley and it was a lucky find. The hotel is old and quaint, but well-kept and clean. It's in a residential area with tree-lined streets so it doesn't seem like "downtown", but you can walk to the lake and Wrigley. Their best asset was their service however, and we will definitely go back.
