Chicago Marriott O'Hare
Ranked #115 of 192 Hotels in Chicago
Reviewed October 17, 2013 via mobile

This hotel is not a typical airport hotel despite the name. It's in close vicinity to O'Hare witha shuttle provided every 20 minutes. Yet it feels like a nice downtown hotel. The staff is great. The hotel is well equipped. Nice restaurant & bar downstairs that serve Starbucks coffee. Huge parking facility that's complimentary if you're in house guest. Within a walking distance there are a couple of restaurants & one upscale supermarket, Dominique. Subway station is just aroind the corner. 25 minutes train ride to get downtown & abkuy 30 minutes drive depending on traffic. I like this place.

Stayed 1 night. No problems here! Friendly staff. Clean room. My room was on the West side of the building (facing the airport). There was no jet noise...but you could here the train coming & going. ( I didn't experience this at the Renaissance across the tracks.) Not sure if staying on the East side would make a difference. Otherwise...all was good here.

Room Tip: Ask @ the Front desk if one side of the hotel is quieter than another.

The lobby was beautiful and up to date. The rooms were also very well kept. The pool was perfect for the family. The bathroom in the room was ridiculously small but usable. All in all it was a great stay and a great value.

Stayed at the O'Hare Marriott for 3 nights in late September of 2013. Wonderful experience.

Service: There was no line when I checked in. Every staff member I encountered was helpful and friendly. Always smiled and said good morning while passing in the hall or lobby. Even the room service lady took a few of the bottles of beer I had left in my room and put them in a bucket with some ice while she was cleaning. Above and beyond.

Value: Got a great deal from Booking. This was by far the nicest hotel I'd ever stayed at in this price range. You could tell that everything was recently remodeled.

Sleep Quality: Had a king size bed and it was heavenly. It's a very quiet place. No partying, no loud noises or anything. Being so close to the airport you can hear a plane coming in or leaving every few minutes, but it's really not intrusive at all, and if you have the TV on you don't even hear it. Slept great.

Cleanliness: Immaculate.

Location: The location couldn't have been better. I took the Blue Line from O'Hare Airport when I arrived, got off at the Cumberland stop, walked across the foot bridge over the highway and there you are in the parking lot. That very same train goes right to The Loop in Chicago. It's about a 40 minute train ride to the Loop. I paid $20 to ride the train unlimited for 3 days. Great deal, and much better than renting a car and driving through that nightmarish traffic. The train blows right by all of that.

Across the street from the hotel is a Dominick's mega grocery store that has everything you may need. Even a deli with hot food. I suggest taking a walk over there to stock up on whatever stuff you may need once you arrive and get settled in to your room.

There are a few pizza places that deliver to the hotel as well. Was very happy I was able to have a Chicago-style pizza delivered to my room.

Rooms: My favorite part about the room was the desk/workstation setup.

There's a HDMI port in the wall, so bring your laptop as well as a HDMI cable so you can watch Netflix on the room's TV! I was very happy the rooms were equipped with this.

There is wifi as well as an ethernet connection. Internet costs $13 per day, but well worth it as it is fast and reliable. Wifi in the lobby is free if you don't think you'll need the internet often enough to justify paying that much.

Others have mentioned that the bathrooms are kind of small. Personally I didn't think they were. It was a sufficient size. I only need it to brush my teeth, take a shower, etc. It's not like I'm doing Pilate's in there or anything.

Breakfast: They have a breakfast buffet. It's a little pricey but the variety is enormous, food is great, and the service people are delightful.

Additional note: If you're paying with a debit card they hold an additional $100 from your bank account. They only gave me back $25 of that, which I don't quite understand as I was extremely cautious with everything in the room and didn't so much as leave a drop of water anywhere. So you can pretty much assume that most of that deposit is gone once they take it. If it weren't for that I would've given them 5 stars.

They've refreshed the bar and the rooms and the place felt alive. Staff were all pumped up and friendly too. Quick overnight stay, didn't eat there. It's a 15 minute ride on the 3 times hourly shuttle to the airport.

The last time I visited the hotel, it felt tired and dispirited. This time it was was dynamic and bustling a result of the very nice make over of the hotel.
The front office staff are efficient not overly friendly as they seem to be wildly over-loaded. The common areas, (bar) were quite nice and very busy.
The name is a little deceiving, you would expect it to be right at the airport, but in fact it is a 5 to 10 minute shuttle ride away, along with all of the other hotels in the area.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our three-night stay at the Marriott O'Hare. The entire staff pampered and catered to us from the time we first walked in the door until the time we left. The very first two people that we met - the doorman and the barista at the Starbucks (my wife had to scratch her latte itch) were extremely welcoming and made a great first impression of the hotel. That impression carried over for the rest of our stay. Any hotel can have a nice room and a comfortable bed (of which this hotel certainly has both), but not every hotel can boast of such a great and accommodating staff. A big "thumbs up" to the hiring manager.

The water pitcher in the hallway was a nice touch, too.
