"The Drake" is truly a grand old hotel. The rooms are a little dated, as in "Old Nice", but never-the -less, nice. Overall, our stay was very good and I would definitely stay there again. The one very large complaint I had was that the shower head in our room had a significant amount of mold/mildew growing on the surface of the head around the spray jets. I am highly allergic to mold and this could have had serious medical ramifications for me. Fortunately, there is modern medicine to deal with the allergies.

However, the mold/mildew is a real let down from the normally high standards of Hilton. Let's hope "The Drake" trains their housekeeping staff to pay more attention to the sanitary and healthy side of cleaning the bathrooms.

We love The Drake and have stayed there a number of times in the past 15 years. We love that there is such a variety of rooms and the breakfast buffet with seating overlooking Lake Michigan is second to none. The afternoon EnglishTea with the soothing music of a harp in the background is an absolute must (at least once). This last stay we were encouraged to take a large corner room on the first floor with large windows overlooking Michigan Ave. It was lovely except for a very slight rancid smell as you entered the room and the totally ridiculous bathroom. It was simply the smallest bathroom we have ever seen. It was almost as small as an airport or train bathroom plus a bathtub. There was no counter space to speak of. You could literally sit on the toilet and soak your feet in the tub while resting your head on the sink counter...not that you would want to. The bathroom was also showing lots of wear and tear: finishes, wall coverings, etc. Anyway, we definitely will ask about bathroom size the next time we stay there. Of course, the gorgeous public areas of the Drake are legendary, the staff is so helpful, the location is perfect, and the beds are very comfy. Love the Drake, but just hated that silly, tiny bathroom.

Room Tip: Ask about the size of the bathroom...seriously.

This is a beautiful old hotel in downtown Chicago. The location is awesome. They have a great, huge fitness center, the rooms are nice (but old nice, not modern). The staff is very friendly. The heat was harder to control because of the building being so old.

I had a one night stay in the Drake in business. It is very well appointed and historic. The decor is classic for a grand hotel. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

While at the hotel I had a drink in the bar as well as room service for breakfast. Both were very good.

The hallways are very wide and the rooms are oversized as you find in many historic hotels. The location is also very good near Michigan Avenue.

The only negatives was the shower was very dark and views were average.

Overall excellent hotel.

Room was clean and well appointed (2 bathrooms!) with a really comfy bed and lovely touches. Fabulous grand older style hotel with class & character. Nice bar, well located. I'd definitely stay again.

Just spent the last week at The Drake for a series of business meetings. You can see that this is a classic hotel. But, if you look closer, it's long in the tooth. The hotel is in need of a refurb. My room had multiple issues - like sliding closet doors that wouldn't slide, wallpaper with substantial peeling of the seams, etc.

From a conference perspective, it's less than ideal. Some of the rooms are long and narrow with low ceilings making you feel somewhat trapped in. The rooms are on various floors leaving you going up slightly one level than down a bit another - it's a strange layout. Worse, we had about 200+ people and when our sessions would end, everyone would head to the one set of elevators - which are small and very slow. There were no stairs available and many people were just a floor or two above the conference rooms (not sure how this is even possible from a fire safety perspective, but that's another topic).

This hotel has a lot of character. The staff was very friendly and the food was pretty good. However, it's in need of a remodeling to bring it back to it's former glory days and I was surprised by this given what I had previously heard about The Drake.
