We stayed at Drake hotel on July 2012, for vacation trip. Great hotel, lots of history in every room. We got an upgrade at checkin, beautiful corner room, executive floor. The service is perfect, hotel is clean. If you like spending time in the bathroom, you may be dissapointed since bathrooms are relatively small. I guess that at the beginning of century, bathroom were not as important as they are these days !!! Except of that, everything was perfect: room, service, food. My diamond status allowed me to the executive lounge... Wow ! Nice view on the lake, excellent service. I recommend this hotel without hesitation.

Our family has been staying with The Drake for over 75 years. Most reently my son and I chose to stay there as our "home base" while visiting relatives in the Chicago area over the Thanksgiving holiday. We felt so at home at The Drake even though it has been at least 3 or 4 yrs since our last visit : ) We had a lovely suite looking over Michigan Ave. and the ability to just pop out the front door and walk to Macy's or Lawry's Steak House, Uno's Pizza, etc... is such a treat for us! One day we even walked down to the Art Institute!
Another day my cousin & her daughter met us at the Coq d'or (in The Drake) for lunch and once again The Drake did not disappoint - our lunch was delicious!! Honestly THE BEST burger I've had in years!! For those of you not familiar, the Coq d'or is basically the stuff legends are made of! LOL! It's a lounge/bar that first opened it's doors one day after prohibition ended in 1933. No kidding! They have this really cool red leather piano there and on Fri & Sat nights there is always live music. They have lounge singers/piano players other times too and you never know what famous face you may run into! Be it a local author or a well-know actor, the dimly lit old-world ambiance is just the type of place one can keep a low profile! In my humble opinion if you are going to visit Chicago you should check out The Drake.

Room Tip: I've found rooms/suites that are above the 3rd flr and over looking Michigan Ave quieter than th...

While the ownership has changed since my last stay, the charm of this historic edifice has not. The 4 restaurants are wonderful. We particularly enjoyed an incredible brunch buffet seated at a window overlooking a park and Lake Michigan. As we looked out our window on the city, a car with a whole family, parents and children alike, all dressed up like Santa stopped at the traffic light below us long enough for a funny and memorable photo op. The shops in the lower level arcade are also charming, and we frequented several of them, and struck up a few friendly conversations with the owners of the flower shop. Since we came in December, the lobby was festooned in Christmas decorations: a huge Christmas tree, a gingerbread village with an electric train, and many beautiful seasonal accents. The staff was the most prompt and courtesous I have encountered in a very long time. And the concierge is like no other I know: to our request about architectural boat tours, he nnot only got us signed up and ready, but told us what seats to select and when to get there and how to go about getting them! When's the last time YOU had service like that? Great place for business, but an awesome place for a romantic or holiday getaway! Oh, and the price? I got my reservation online through one of the big booking sites about 2 weeks before traveling, and it was less than 1/3 the advertised price - the same or less than I would have paid at the least expensive places in this part of Chicago. So in terms of value, I would rate it higher than the highest rating!

Room Tip: I don't know of a tip really, but without specifying anything at check-in, our room had a reason...

I stayed at The Drake for 5nights for a business trip. If you like historical hotels, this is the one for you. I am more of a modern hotel guy and therefore I didn't like it as much. The room was very spacious, bathroom was ok and you will not feel lonely because you can clearly hear your next door friends! The staff is very helpful. The hotel has the best location, Michigan Ave and a block from restaurants, Hancock tower and lakeshore drive a block from the back entrance.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms that do not have door that separates 2 rooms, ask if they have completely separate roo...

We stayed for a week in late July to pick up my son from Northwestern. It's within walking distance to everything. The staff is very helpful and the building itself it beautiful. We also had a spectacular view of the lake.

The Drake hotel has lots of character, and is extremely charming. My only suggestion would be that it may be time to spruce the rooms up a bit - especially the bathrooms. This is a bit of a challenge because you don't want to lose any of the charm. If you like hotels with a history and magical feel you've found the place!

This is a classic hotel on the mile and has a ton of charm. The staff (except the bartender in Palm Court) were very friendly and helpful. The room was very nice and the tree and life-sized nutcrackers in the lobby made it really feel like the holidays. The proce is reasonable for the location.
