magnificent, old fashion, luxury hotel. Very large, rich and super clean rooms, with super comfortable huge bed... nice but small bathroom compared to the room. Perfect location in Chicago, on Michigan "shopping" ave. Definitely one of the best hotel I have ever been. Just stayed for one night but I will be back. Nice big Christmas tree in the hall (...but this is the time of the year..)

The location of this hotel is perfect - corner of Michigan Avenue and Lakeshore Drive. My husband was working and I did not have a car - but I did not need one - everything I could want was within walking distance - lake, park, shopping!!! It was rather crazy over the weekend - I guess with Christmas shoppers, but we very much enjoyed our stay!! Breakfast buffet was quite expensive - $23 each - so we found other options after the first day.

Great service from all the people that worked there. Our room had a view of the lake. We love the location at the north end of the Mag Mile. At 200 dollars per night its a great value and we stay there again any time we are in chicago

Stayed for the first time recently and was pleasantly surprised. Great location and super comfortable beds. As a Diamond member, we had a access to the Executive Lounge and that was nice... Lavazza Italian coffee machine was fantastic, basic continental bkfst was good, not great... but well staffed and stocked. Amazing views if facing the water/lakeshore dr. A ton of people work here... this is one place where they didn't cut back on staff... and it is well appreciated. Enjoyed this place a lot.

In the Windy City for a convention, this time I chose to stay at the Drake. In every way, I am so very glad I did. It was a good walk up Michigan Avenue, only a mile or so from the convention, and a quick taxi return.

Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, next door to the wonderful view from the top of the Hancock Building, the Drake Hotel beats the Marriott any day! It’s a timeless beauty with everything you want in a hotel.

Actually, last week I was in another city in another historic hotel, a hotel also owned by Hilton. Both similarly-priced hotels are located in their city’s heart, have ornate lobbies, beautiful carpeting in the hallways, LavAzza coffee in the rooms, Peter Thomas Roth soap in the bathrooms, identical ice buckets near the large screen television, and so on. Yet there is no comparison.

Not only do you get a terrycloth robe, the Drake is rich with history. Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio’s initials are carved in the bar, Princess Dianna slept here, and high tea at the Drake is still one of those must-do experiences when visiting Chicago.

My room had three large widows, a shower and a tub, a separate study, and plenty of good lighting with multi-settings on all lamps. The room was large, well appointed, and incredibly clean.

I purchased the bed and breakfast option at this beautiful landmark hotel. The bed part could not have been better, due in part to the blackout shades behind the windows’ sheers. Breakfast in the Drake Brothers Restaurant was perfect. Normally priced at $23, it’s a lavish buffet with especially lovely Virginia ham, salmon, breads, and berries. They gave me a handful of extra coupons and some friends joined me for a leisurely meal.

The Drake Hotel is uniquely superb. It is immaculate, well maintained, and hopping. Then again, in this age of economic downturn, so is Chicago. Unlike so many other cities, this one seems to be thriving.

Treat yourself to the Drake. You won’t regret a stay at this classy place.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room. They are spacious.

We reserved this room on priceline for half off the normal price. We then called to make sure the room would have two beds- which was an additional 70, of course. Room was okay- minus the roach we found in the bathroom and the faucet that wouldn't turn off, way to go green! The bar staff in the lounge was rude and spent his time ignoring us- had to wait over a half hour for the check. He must have thought the girls splitting the salad would tip more.

During the check out process, the computer system was down. After waiting 10 min she reported there was nothing she could do- so she would email us a receipt. We had to call again and they had to resend it to us since emails apparently take 10min to an hour to be received. Funny since we got the resent one right away! We then noticed an extra 200 fee for the room with two beds on top of the already charged price.

Also, the adjoining parking garage was 70 total plus 10 for having an suv. Not to mention them not being able to make change or losing the keys.

Overall, I recommend the marriott next door.

If you like the charm of older hotels with charm then you will enjoy this hotel! It has a great location, beautiful lobby. The rooms are quite nice and larger than most hotels in Chicago. The price is fair. If you ask nicely they will usually accommodate you with a view of Michagan Ave. or the lake. You really can't go wrong with this hotel. The service is amazing too.

If you are looking for a brand new, cool, trendy hotel with nightlife then this isn't the place for you. This is more like the Fairmount in San Francisco (although without the amazing views of the Fairmount), then you will enjoy this hotel.
