This was my first stay at this hotel and booked 4 nights.
I must say I did not what to expect, as Sheraton properties really vary a lot.
I arrived on Sunday 24th March and even if the streets of downtown were deserted, the hotel was very full. The lobby is impresive and the common areas very nice indeed. Also liked the florr in a breakfast restaurant (did not use it) and the Link by Sheraton which is really a big plus.
I was staying on club floor in a corner room, and was very happy with it. Overlooking the Navy Pier and the lake. The bed was great, Tv very good, and the furniture and ambience interesting. Nothing special, but nice modern touch. The bathroom was basic, but still acceptable. I am really grateful for a corner room, as it was very quiet and nothing could be heard from outside. However the closet was tiny and only suitable for some shirts and a bag pack. I think it was because of the special layout of the room, as other rooms have bigger spaces. Also the strange safe incorporated into the wall with a key..have not seen anything like this. It seems more late 70-ies.
I was also suprised about the ugly room doors and the gap between them and the floor. You could hear who was inside doing what every time you passed by. Definitely not much privacy. It is common practice specially in USA hotels, which really bothers me.
This hotel was one of the best Sheratons for the moment but being so large it is impossible to have a personal touch. I was missing a little better service from the staff who was just corteous, but nothing more. They only helped what asked for.
The hotel was not so clean as others wrote. There were dirty plates outside on the hallway of the 31st floor for 3 days and also used cups on the tables next to the elevators. The carpet there was really dirty with kind of balls of hair...no vacuum cleaning for weeks!
I was surprised that all the staff that passed over there did not clean it, even if it was not their work!
I had a problem with Green choice which I set up when booked and also at check it. I kept receiving the notes beneth my door that I am "not entitled for that service the last day of my stay". Of course it was not true. I spoke to the front desk about this and other stuff but they did check the computer but all stayed the same. It seems no records on customers...
The main problem with my stay was children everywhere. Of course they are children and have the right to go to the hotel, but their behaivour was not acceptable. The parents are to blame, as they really did everything what they wanted without beeing supervised. Shouting, chasing each other, climbing the sofas, and playing with their shoes on, on the chairs. They were alone riding elevators in bathing suits, coming into the lounge bare foot and playing with food. They were in the pool at all times, and playing games at the Link computers.
How could you possibly enjoy such a caos? The hotel management should seriously advise those who do not behave properly.
But overall nice hotel, in a nice area and well presented and for the price paid I cannot complain.
Would stay here again, but as there are so many better hotels nearby, why?
