Raffaello Hotel
Ranked #106 of 192 Hotels in Chicago
Reviewed April 3, 2014

For the price we paid I think this hotel provides good value. It is in a great location, only 2 mins walk from Michigan Avenue and 15-20 from The Loop, plus there are lots of buses you can catch from Michigan Ave should you wish. It markets itself as a boutique hotel but I'm not sure it really stretches that far but it is nice enough. We were given a complimentary upgrade to a suite, which was nice, although the suite only really provides more space it's not necessarily more luxurious.

Pros -
As mentioned before a great location almost next door to the John Hancock Building. With Lake Michigan only a couple of mins walk in the other direction.
Staff were friendly and helpful
Rooms were clean and comfy
Price was good (for us anyway) and for that area is a bargain.
The wonderful Glazed and Confused donut shop in the lobby (yum!)
Free wifi (although very slow and unreliable)

Cons - (mostly minor though)
Breakfast was only available through room service, which was costly. There is a restaurant and bar within the hotel but we didn't visit, I suspect they might have been expensive too.
The mini bar was expensive but this is usually the case with 99% of hotels. There was a coffee machine provided but we were only given 2 pods a day, a bit stingy, it would've been nice to have had more hot drink making facilities. Also for some strange reason the coffee pods & mini bar replacements were delivered to the room separately from house keeping & sometime we had to ask reception for the coffee pods. The 'kitchenette' is really just a microwave, sink and minibar. Fine, but don't go expecting to be cooking your own meals!
The air conditioning was quite loud in the hotel room and as the sofa is near the grill you find it difficult to hear the TV, which is the other side of the room. However there was a TV in the bedroom and we found it far cosier to watch it in bed.

Overall though if you can get a good price this hotel is well worth it.

We stayed at the Raffaello for two nights. The room was large, spacious, with two very comfortable beds. parking was not a problem, since there are many public lots nearby. Reception was quick and easy. The hotel is only one block from Michigan avenue. Considering the location the price was not high. We were in room 1502 , although facing the city there was no noise. Highly recommend. Only thing lacking was breakfast, although there is a donut coffee shop of the hall. The attached restaurant , I do not think belongs to the hotel, is excellent but very very expensive and was very noisy with large groups the evening we were there.

Room Tip: The higher up the better. Corner rooms may be bigger.

Stayed here for 4 days, room was very clean, size was just right for 2 people with double beds. Location was key pretty much everything from walking distance or train accessible. Parking was not bad $35 for 24hrs with in and outs just around the block. Enjoyed the Glazed and Infused Doughnut location inside the hotel. Room was cleaned daily. It gets warm but just leave windows open and you should be fine. They have a great bar lounge and patio on the 18th Floor called Drumbar a must see great for private parties, after work have a few drinks and overall low key location. All staff were
of the highest regard. Thank you Raffaello Hotel for making our stay very enjoyable!

Special thanks to Lowri Gray and her team for their expertise in making a recent wedding weekend phenomenal! As a wedding coordinator, working with Lowri was a dream--excellent communication skills, very well grounded in knowledge and experience, and extremely cooperative and hospitable. The bride had the bridal suite for the day, and the bride and groom experienced their "first moment" at the Drumbar upstairs on the 18th floor which was a photographer's dream! I simply cannot say enough. We sincerely appreciated their kindness and cooperativeness throughout the wedding weekend! (By the way, we purchase donuts in the lobby for the bridal party for the morning of the wedding; only two words to describe: ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!)

Room Tip: Suites are nice and roomy.

We enjoyed the winter rate for a two day stay. The Raffaello has been recently updated (modern faux-chic) and our room with a queen bed was spacious and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location was excellent. It's one block off of North Michigan Ave and near buses that will take you anywhere you may need to go (about 6 blocks from the Chicago stop on the red line). The Hancock Tower, Water Tower Place, and the Museum of Contemporary Art are all neighbors. There is a donut shop in the lobby for convenient coffee in the morning. Would definitely stay again! The only negative that comes to mind is the slow elevators, so don't wait until the last minute to leave your room!

We stayed at the raffaelloo since it was a good price and location. I made a request via phone reservation about room preference and was told to expect an email confirmation. After calling to follow up about the email confirmation three times, I was told they had the correct email but their system still didn't send it. When arriving, room was not ready at check in time. Was told it would be ready shortly. 1 1/2hours later, it was ready. Room requests were not met, but after speaking to manager she was able to accomodate although she was a little crabby about it. Room didn't have DVD player in it even though website says they do. Found out you need to request that and by the time I asked they were all out. I expressed my frustration at the misinformation and Front desk says they would let manager know. Our room was ridiculously hot when we went to bed. At 3 am I was wide awake with the thermostat off/low and window open but horribly hot still. After contacting front desk they offer to have someone come look at the heart but with it being 3 am and two small kids sleep sleeping, I needed to just deal. Again was told they would let their manager know. I believe that is their go to. Towels had black streaks on them and the shower was terrible to regulate. I got text to rate my visit and I gave it a low rating. Hotel didn't seem to care. I wonder if they ever told their manager?

The Raffaello is located just a block East of Michigan Ave, so if you are inclined to shop, it's right there. If you like the nightlife, Rush St is a few blocks away. Good restaurants abound in the area, starting at Pelago, within the hotel itself.

We used to live right around the corner until we moved to Michigan five years ago. We wanted to come back "home" for a quick trip, so we stayed at the Raffaello. We couldn't have been more pleased. The checkin process was quick and efficient. The room was small, but very clean and comfortable. The rainforest shower was a treat.

The hotel staff treats you well. They text you when you get situated in your room to make sure everything is all right. When you are checking out, they text you again asking if you need help with luggage. Nice touch.

Can't wait for another stay at the Raffaello.

Room Tip: Try the restaurant on premises, Pelago, and finish the evening in the Drumbar - excellent whiskey an...
