Excellent Wedding Weekend

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jul 7, 2019
Our son got married at the Intercontinental Hotel and the venue was outstanding. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning an event. The staff was outstanding in all aspects, and our event coordinator was top-notch.
Date of stay: June 2019
Room Tip: We asked for a mini refrigerator to be brought to our room, and it was delivered within 5 minutes.

We have spent 4 days in InterContinental Chicago for a Convention in June 2019, and it's my pleasure to spend more than a word for this incredible hotel, situated in the main core of Magnificent Mile, downtown of Chicago. Made by two towers, this hotel and its incredible indoor pool (12th floor) was built in 1929, and it is still possible to breath a flare of that peculiar historical period. Let the place whisper and you'll be transferred in those charming period sipping your cocktail by the pool or waiting for your taxi in the elegant hall.
The position is the perfect one to strolling around making some window-shopping along the magnificent mile, and it's at a walk distance to the terminal of the "Architectural river tour" or the City sightseeing tour.
Reception and Concierge service of this hotel worth five full stars for competence, courtesy and politeness; sumptuous self service breakfast buffet (a special price of $ 15 is available for kids) is waiting for you at 2nd floor in the mooring: you can choose between a complete buffet ($ 29 if I'm not wrong) and the healthy one (22 $), but you can go for à la carte menù as well. On the other hand you can opt for a fast breakfast at Starbucks just inside the Hotel hall.
Cleaning service perfectly aligned with the high standard offered by InterContinental Chicago.
Just a hint: don't be tricked by the carpeting in the main tower: it's not ruined, is the drawing plot that looks like shattered!

Room tip: The executive tower is far better than the main one

I love this chain. The points are great and the staff and management are so wonderful to deal with. The Intercontinental MagMile is no different. Check in and the Concierge were great, just like every other ones in the chain.

HOWEVER, the physical plant in Chicago is a little dated. During this recent visit, I stayed in a suite in the Grand Tower that was notable for its two bathrooms. That alone has me really thinking that this hotel may be my go-to.

I wrote a review it wouldn't let me submit for some reason and now am forced to re-write it so I will be brief. There is limited storage space in the room, so pack light. No vents in the bathroom. Food is poor to mediocre and tragically overpriced ($60 for a dry salmon fillet?). Mini fridge is unusable because that and the snack track have electronic sensors that charge you for items if out of place for +30 seconds. Elevators were terrible, lines of patrons waiting at busy times because only 4 for +30 floors of rooms and all pretty tiny. Down-filled pillows, my wife is allergic, the foam ones they brought us were like sleeping on logs. Rooms were halfway decent aesthetically but functionality is poor. Hotel computer in the lobby for printing plane tickets didn't work. Every Lyft/Uber driver we ordered couldn't find the place because they end up getting lost on the lower level (that part of Michigan Ave has a lower and upper level and they always end up on the lower). Location is awesome if you have extremely wealthy and have plenty of expendable income. For most Americans, the price you're paying isn't worth it, food and quality on par with a Motel-6. Pool is nice if you have the time but we honestly don't care because none of us like swimming. If you're into swimming pools, walking in downtown Chicago, and don't intend to use the room much, than it's okay. Oh, and service was pretty slow for everything and most of their clerks seemed upset (and probably underpaid, but I'm only guessing).

Room tip: Ask a lot of questions. Fridges sensor-laden, no space, pack light, bring own pillow. We should have went with an AirBnB.

We used the hotel for a business event and we found that both conference center and private areas are of high quality.
Rooms are spacious and well lit, and staff is always ready to help. Also appreciate the 24/7 room service.
