Very central. Good location near the most important points of Chicago. The restaurant of Michael Jordan and Starbucks both at the ground floor are very helpful if you wake up hungry in the morning or get back tired to the hotel at night. My only complaint is about the room itself. It could be a bit bigger.

Dear Leonardo R,

We are so glad you were able to take advantage of our excellent location in downtown Chicago. We are also happy you found value in both Michael Jordan’s Steakhouse and the Starbucks in our lobby. Regarding your comment about the size of your room, we would like you to know there is a simple solution to this! The next time you stay with us, we encourage you to request a room in our recently renovated Executive Tower, as these provide more spacious floor plans along with their updated décor. Thank you very much for taking the time to review your stay with us and we look forward to your return.

Sincerely,
Markus Krebs

I stay at the Intercontinental Chicago quite often when in town. The recently remodeled Executive Tower (South) is wonderful. Because of the frequency of stays and "Ambassador" status, I've seen a number of beautifully redone rooms. The decor is very nice and the room configurations are excellent! Rooms are generous, bathrooms and amenities are also very nice.
If you're hungry or need to "wow" someone, "Michael Jordan's Steakhouse" is not to be missed. Don't forget about the full blown Starbucks just off the lobby.
Every encounter I've had with staff has been positive. I've found them to be very friendly and helpful. From the minute you arrive "curbside", you feel welcome here!

For an Intercontinental I had expected a lot more. I was traveling on business and limited in the "company preferred" options I could choose from, so personally, I would not have chosen to stay here. While the location was great, the hotel itself needs some sprucing up. The room was small, cheaply made and decorated and not super clean. The bathroom door had stains and gunk all over it, it was damaged at the bottom, and all around the sink area was just cheap painted wood beneath the counters. Nothing special about the place at all. It was rated 4 stars, but I don't think that was due to anything with the interior of the hotel. On the plus, the reception desk staff was decent and friendly. I probably wouldn't stay again though.

Dear leahleah311,

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience. We apologize your stay during your business trip was not as pleasing as it could have been. We will look into your feedback regarding the cleanliness of our rooms so that we may guarantee our guest rooms are both clean and well functioning. Though we regret that your room during this stay did not impress, we would like to mention that we also have other accommodation options that would provide you with a much more spacious and modern room. The rooms in our Executive Tower were just renovated as of January 2015 and feature high-quality finishing along with additional amenities. We believe that in one of these rooms, you would be more comfortable during your stay. We hope our location will encourage you to return to InterContinental Chicago so that we may earn the chance to create your ideal stay.

Sincerely,
Markus Krebs

The reason I rate it as 3 point is straightforward, it is actually below my expectation for a hotel at this level. I rate it 3 points because this is my first stay at InterContinental property, otherwise, it will be just two points.
To be fair, I have to say this is a good hotel by its location and property. It located at center of magnificent miles. The historical tower has awesome classical design. It has a olympic level poor.

However, they definitely have severe management problems. As a Platinum Ambassador member, I was supposed to be able to check in/out at the ambassador specific checking area. When I was arrived, there is nobody there, I asked the concierge services. They just walked away without any explanation. I had to taking the common checkin line. A few minutes later, a woman comes out and told us to check in. She did not recognized my elite status. I showed her proof. And she was told me she assigned me a deluxe room. I explained that I was confirmed a executive room. But she was really impatient and told me that is the room I got, and she also mocked the cheap rate I paid using my corporate contract rate. Anyway I trusted her. And she told me my welcome fruit and gift (entitled for Ambassador membership) will be delivered before 4PM.

When I got my room. I was surprised that they call it a bigger deluxe room. It is exactly the smallest room at the floor, and the size are exactly you got for a standard room at any hotel. The bathtub can only hold one person, so does the shower room. I called customer services to confirm the room size. She was so impatient, and just told me it is a deluxe room. I told her if she can find us a bigger one at higher floor since this is too small for a couple. She reject my request with a rude attitude.

Anyway, when I come back at night after 9:00PM. I was surprised that my welcome fruit and gift was not delivered. I called customer service, they do apologized the delay and claimed they will send me the fruit. 20 minutes later, I got an apple with many scars and an orange tasted almost rotten, and a dried pear. Whatever, I was too tired to argue.

We went to take a bath. Then I noticed that the bathtub was not cleaned, there are many black dirts and stains as the photo I took. At this moment, I already gave up my trust on the quality of InterContinental. I was so regretted that I purchased the Ambassador membership. Especially in contrast to an awesome (but lower star level) hotel I stayed at previous night. The service quality this hotel provided just make me felt humiliated both publicly and privately.

At the next day, when we check out, the ambassador front desk let me wait awkwardly for literally 5 minutes for him to playing his computer, I don't understand what he was doing there. But definitely, it felt sucks.

After all, I would say I would not recommend this hotel for couples. It may works OK for a single man business trip. The wifi speed is pretty slow (~ 3.3MBps but broken frequently).

Fantastic location! Right in the heart of all the action and shopping. Easy walk to the beach as well. Easy friendly check in. Our room was not cleaned when we arrived, and they promptly offered a move and sent a bellman. Air conditioner in 2nd room was wonky, sent someone to fix it quickly. When it couldn't be fixed again got us a new room. I know this sounds horrible, but their attitudes made all the difference. Very professional and sincere. We received free breakfast, drink coupons and wine and chocolates sent to our room with out prompting. Follow up call from management to our room as well. One member of the front desk staff heard my friend was a diabetic and sent a fridge up for her insulin with out our asking! The rooms are large and the bathrooms are very spacious. Wifi was strong with no drops. Doorman hailed us a cab very quickly. Michael Jordan's was nothing to write home about. Bartenders are not friendly and food was average. Breakfast was adequate. Would give this hotel another shot due to the outstanding service, and location.
