“Not worth the expense!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2013

My family and I stayed at the InterContinental in downtown Chicago during my kids' spring break.

Although the hotel is historic and nicely decorated, we found our guest room to be small and crowded for the four of us. In addition, we ended up having to be moved to another room after 9 pm the first night due to our bathroom sink overflowing with what looked like raw sewage.

We disliked the fact that we were charged an exorbitant amount per night for parking, and were refused the ability to access our car ourselves (i.e. without the intervention of the valet) to retrieve something from it.

The pool area is beautiful and historic. However, there is no hot tub or sauna, and the shallow end of the pool was too deep for my kids to safely play on their own. Also, I was frustrated in response to there not being adequate signs to point the way from the pool back to our room in the other tower.

I felt taken advantage of by the fact that the room service menu guide didn't warn us we'd be assessed an expensive service charge, and in response to us being charged for making a local call we didn't make.

Here's one last word of warning which was confirmed by our bell man: You will (initially) be charged for consuming mini bar items if you inadvertently jostle them in any way based on them being attached to a sensor that is registered at the front desk!

This hotel has such character in the historic tower. My husband has stayed here a few times on busines and knew I would love it.We had a premier king on the 15th floor, Room 1506. Windows on two sides, one overlooking Michigan Ave. Bed separated from bath by a long hallway, loved that feature. Nice bathroom with robes. Very comfortable bed.Exceptional service. Only negative the TV and desk should be in opposite places. The tv was off to the side of the bed instead of at the foot, a little awkward. Take the time to explore the historic tower, quite interesting.
Perfect location for shopping, nightlife, sightseeing. Dinner at Michal Jordon's on property amazing

Room Tip: Choose a room in historic tower, high floor.

A great hotel centrally located in Chicago - Close walk to everything from the Art Museum to all the good restaurants. Staff is amazing and very helpful. A great place to say in Chicago. As mentioned before the upper floors have slow elevators but it didnt seem to be too bad. Can be slow but they do arrive. We stayed in the Historical Tower with a great view and rooms laid out nicely given the older hotel. New decor was nice. Worth going and if you have a daughter take advantage of the American Girl Package. They really set you up nicely. Conceirge service is great as well.

I've stayed at the InterContinental on Miracle Mile before with my wife and 2 kids and we had a great experience. Based on that, we went back and brought friends with us. We stayed over Easter weekend 2013 Thursday through Sunday.

Every interaction that we had with staff was great. Everyone that I interacted with was courteous and genuinely friendly. There was one minor hiccup with our accommodation and that was resolved graciously and generously by Mr. Theiler. I've never had a more positive customer service experience. Thanks again, Mr. Theiler for your help!

The rooms are well-appointed and clean. The lobby is elegant. We ate several times at MJ's. The food was very good and the bartenders were friendly and attentive. The gals had wine one night in the wine bar and had a good experience there.

All I can say is, I will stay at this hotel again and again and I will recommend it highly to friends and to you.

Room Tip: Rooms ending with 61 in the new tower have a master suite with closing solid doors and there are two...

We had never stayed at the InterContinental prior to this visit. The most pleasant part of the stay was meeting Bob Klees, who went above and beyond his position to insure we had a good experience. I would have to say- he truly MADE our stay the experience it was!
Thank you, Bob, for a memorable stay!

Room Tip: our room was a bit cramped, but very adequate for the value.

Valet parking expensive but worth the convience. Staff was awsome, especially Marcus and Theiler at the front desk, all staff members we came in contact with were friendly, concierge was very knowledgeable and helpful. Room was awsome, great linens, big bathroom. amazing view of Lake Michigan and Michigan Ave. from our windows. Only downfall were the restaurants in the hotel were very very pricey and the bath robe was thin pique not plush terry cloth.

Room Tip: Corner rooms have two windows, we had a view of Lake Michigan and Michigan Ave, amazing!.

My now fiance and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. After reading some reviews on the hotel and staff before our stay there both him and I were very leery of the hotel, but chose it because of it's location. When we first arrived at the hotel (3 hours ahead of the normal check-in time) Margaret greeted us with a friendly smile and welcomed us to the hotel. She then let us check-in early and gave us an upgrade on our room to the Historic Tower (my finace wanted a high room with a nice view of the city.) The room was absolutely amazing, big bedroom area, long hallway that lead you to the marble bathroom with a seperate tub and shower. I was very impressed! The only downside to this room was the view was blocked by part of the building all the way around so all you could see was half a wall. We phoned down to Margaret and she agreed (with no problem at all) to move us to another room that would satisfy my fiance's wants for a nice view. She told us she would have our luggage moved and whenever we returned from lunch she would have the new room keys waiting for us. Sure enough, we got back from lunch and there were two room keys waiting for us. We went to the new room and found it much, much smaller than the first. We decided we'd like something a bit bigger (pain much? I know.) We went downstairs and that's when we met Cintia. She upgraded us a suite in the new tower and also gave us free breakfast buffet vouchers for the next morning to apologize for the inconvenience. We were both totally blown away with how polite, friendly, and helpful she was even though we'd already been in two rooms. When we got to the room it was amazing, HUGE and had a beautiful view of the city! The bed was plush and so comfortable (made being away from our bed at home bearable!) The Michael Jordan restaurant was just as amazing as the hotel. Service was great and food surpassed any expectations we had. When we got back to Chicago we will only ever stay at this hotel. The service, rooms, and amenities at this hotel were the best I've ever experienced. This trip turned out to be a surprise engagement trip and the hotel played part in such a great long weekend!
