I've stayed in Chicago many times... This is the first time I haven't stayed close to Michigan Ave. I really liked the location being near the Merchandise Mart... Tons of restaurants close by... Views of the river... The brown and purple line... And more in with the locals than with the touristy Michigan Ave area...

The hotel itself is nice and the staff was really friendly..and you can't beat having breakfast thrown in and kids eat free for all their meals... Even if you don't get breakfast for free in your reservation.

So..the only drawbacks--the heated indoor pool is really nice and also FREEZING... I know you want a lap pool to be cool... But the primary usage while we were there was families playing. My son wanted to play longer in the pool but when his skin to the touch was COLD i made him get out.

The other drawback is the location. The brown and purple lines pretty much circle the building and they run each way every 15 minutes. There is also a (Metra--think Amtrak) huge train station right across the river that is VERY busy.... So it was unbelievably loud in our room (2220) despite being one floor from the top.

I've been not only to Chicago numerous times but also been to many other major cities.. So I know major cities are 'noisy' and came prepared with the iPad loaded with a great noisemaker app... One that I've used when staying at a hotel next to a major airport, etc.

Even with the iPad volume cranked all the way up to the max and the white noise going... We could still hear the trains. Even when the trains were not running... Another rooms heater kicking on was SUPER loud. We got hardly any sleep over the three nights we were there.

If not for this incredible noise level... We would definitely be back (if they fixed the pool temperature).
Since no one else has mentioned the noise level maybe it was just our room? If you are a very sound sleeper and would just use the pool for a lap pool... Definitely stay here for the great location, price, nice room and friendly staff.

If you are a light sleeper stay closer to Michigan Ave at the Hyatt on Wacker --further away from the trains... But no free breakfast or friendly staff... Just a low room rate and nice room and good location.

We stayed here during Easter weekend. We pricelined for $74 a night for 2 nights. We loved the location-stayed an extra night for $99. They switched us to city/river view. The hotel is in the final process of renovation. We did not have any issues. The pool is very large. We wish they had a hot tub. It is located close to the Brownline and is close to many popular places to eat (3-4 blocks walking distance) We attended Mass at beautiful Assumptions Roman Catholic Church. We had a wonderful time and would stay again at the same hotel. We went to eat at the French Market down the street. It was a cute bunch of food shops. The Merchant Mart had some amazing displays, but way out of our price range. One can dream!!!

The hotel was under renovation so depending which floor you get, you will either get an average room but somewhat outdated room or a somewhat remodeled room. The cleaning staff and concierge were fantastic, friendly and helpful. The experience was a bit awkward. 1st we got put in a room that had not been remodeled and the ceiling was leaking bc the rooms above us were being remodeled. We then got moved to a smaller room that was remodeled. Then Management, security and the police were all nite at a room next to us (2-3 doors down). Not sure what was the deal but it certainly made us feel unsafe and uncomfortable. The walk to the train station is indoors but its quite a walk. The hotel is clean and the view from the upper rooms was nice. As a Priority Club member I felt the priority club manager Edgar M. was quite rude and condescending and can def needs to polish his customer service skills.

Pros: Downtown, Most of the staff is friendly and helpful, good view, free wifi, indoor pool, indoor walk to train station and small shopping mall/center, clean rooms. A+++ to the cleaning staff, they were very good, friendly and thorough.

Cons: Hotel is being remodeled, far walk to train station, bad experience w employee Edgar (Priority Club Manager), carpet in lobby was not properly glued and my husband tripped on it and almost fell, remodeled room was the best compared to other Chicago hotels, there is a strong chemical smell from the water fountain in the lobby.

Would I stay here again? If I had no other options and the price was right. I will def prefer to stay in another IHG hotel. I'd rather stay in the Holiday Inn Downtown of Harrison which train is closer, restaurant is more reasonable w a better food selection and has a fantastic staff or Hotel Indigo which has a much better look and its updated (These are smaller hotels owned by IHG where Ive stayed and had better experiences) or Holiday Inn Express Magnificent Mile.

We stayed here for 3 nights, on a long weekend in the city. We used to live in Chicago so we knew what to expect from the area.

Our major complaint was lack of customer service. We called 3 different times to request wine glasses and plates and silverware to be brought up to the room. Twice we were told that the restaurant was closed so no one could help us. On the third try, we were told that "the server is on another floor, but you can come downstairs to get whatever you need." Um, what?? No thank you.

While my husband went to park the car upon check in, I hauled a huge cart full of luggage thru the lobby and up to our room... All while 2 different bellman or whomever they were literally stood there and watched me struggle.

I called this morning to ask for a luggage cart to be brought up to our room. I was told "you have to come down and get it". So I had to go down to the lobby and ask a bellman. And his response was "if we have any". I did get a cart, but no offer of help - again.

So, while the location is decent and the hotel itself is nice, I was terribly disappointed in the service. Would not stay here again.

i am an employee with IHG and my fiance and i really enjoyed our stay. we had a rough trip in the beginning and i must say this hotel was so much fun and really nice. the room we had on the ninteenth floor with a view was absolutely gorgeous. we could see clear to the lake!

The staff was helpful and nice.

The breakfast totally burned a hole in my pocket, i should of asked but i had no idea it would cost 50 bucks for two people at a buffet. we only had some bacon because we were both not feeling well from the night before i almost cried

the room was really nice and clean and the bed was comfy.

it was cool that the lobby was on the 15th floor of the building and the pool was the 16th floor. the pool was cold so we didnt swim, bummed out there wasnt a hot tub unless we missed it somehow.

there was a bar in the lobby with a view but i figured it would cost 100 bucks for four drinks so we brought our own.

Great location right next to the river and a few miles from the lake and close to alot of bars and clubs and dining.

Wish i could of got a refund or discount on the buffet, it would be very much appreciated.

We stayed at this hotel when we attended my college graduation. While the hotel was beautiful it seems the staff was more interested in the fraternity reunion that making sure ALL of their guests were happy. The first night we were there these frat guys were loud and drunk. Called down to complainand they said "ok". When we woke the next morning to leave for the ceremony there were empty beer bottles and pizza boxes everywhere. The front desk was rude and I emailed the manager to complain when we got home and while I got an apology it felt very rehearsed and not very sincere. Next time I will definately choose a different hotel.

I stayed here for a business trip, not my favorite holiday inn to say the least. The hotel is within another building so to get to the hotel lobby you take 1 elevator, followed by transferring to a separate room elevator. The staff was nice, except for the fact that I had requested a King size bed but was given two double beds, and I was facing two brick walls. Which made the room feel like a cave, no light during the day. In addition I was close to the renovation floor so constant noise during the day. The internet speed is VERY slow, don't expect to get any work done. In addition the heater in the rooms is so loud, you can expect to wake up every time the thermostat kicks in. I don't see how this is considered a "Full Service" hotel when the room service is only served until 11PM. If your looking for a motel like experience, stay here!

Room Tip: Make sure the room is not facing the atrium. Make sure the room has a view or you will have no ligh...
