“Comfortable Affordable and great location”
Reviewed September 11, 2011

We came with one other couple for two days in Chicago. The hotel's location was perfect for taking the train and cabs. The view out our window was spectacular (room 3417.) The check in process was quick and when we noticed that there wasn't a hair dryer in the room, the staff brought one up right away. The rooms were recently renovated, clean and had Keurig coffee makers (fancy.) Although we didn't use the bar/restaurant it was very "cool" looking with outdoor heaters and modern decorations. The free wifi was easy - and really was free.

Room Tip: River view - high room - close-ish to elevator

we wanted a nice, clean hotel for a reasonable price and we got real nice luxury for a very decent price (well for a big city).......save on parking -- there's a lot 2 doors down from the hotel you can park 24 hrs for $28 (cheaper than the hotel's $45) -- the doorman pointed us the way - which was very kind of him (told us the only downside was no in & out privledges - but that was fine with us) - all in all a good stay

We (my Wife, 3 month old and I) just got home from our 3 night stay at Hotel 71 and overall we really enjoyed the experience. We had a corner room (not one of the City View rooms) and the room still had a view of the Chicago River which was a nice treat. I’m not sure how much this hotel would normally cost but we purchased a Groupon a while back so we paid $99 a night and it was well worth it.
The major pluses were: The hotel is centrally located, right next to the loop, a block away from Michigan Avenue and a short walk to Millennium Park and most of the other major attractions.
Now for the downsides: The parking lot is currently undergoing a renovation and you have to wait up to 20 minutes for the valet to bring your car. It’s not a big deal if you plan ahead and call before you need the car but I don’t think the hotel should still be charging their normal $45 a day parking rate right now.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay at Hotel 71 and would definitely stay here again, with or without a Groupon.

I am a budget traveler. We actually spent the first part of this trip staying with friends outside of the city. But we wanted our last night in Chicago to be special, so we booked at room at Hotel 71. I have been to Chicago several times before, but my husband hadn't. We were both thoroughly impressed by the view of the city from the hotel. It was beautiful. Our room was clean and modern. The bed was comfortable, and although we didn't use it (because there was an Intelligentsia coffee shop nearby), the room had a Keurig coffee maker, which I appreciated. The hotel staff were incredibly accommodating, as we needed to leave our luggage for 5 hours after check out. As far as price goes, I am not used to spending $200 on luxury hotels. We actually used the Hotel Tonight iphone app to find a great deal on this hotel, although I think the price would have been the same booking directly through the hotel website. I would definitely stay here again if I had the opportunity to head back to Chicago.

Room Tip: We asked for a room with a view and we got one. Never hurts to ask!

Stayed here for a three day weekend trip to Chicago. Got a special rate from TravelZoo. The hotel is in a GREAT location, right on the river and very convenient to most of the sights in Chicago. We got a room overlooking the river, which was beautiful.

The room was clean and the bathroom was huge. The shower was very nice as well.

My only slight complaint was that we were next to the elevator shaft. You could NOT hear the elevator from our room, but you could hear the people congregating next to the elevator waiting for it. I would DEFINITELY recommend and I will be back when I am in Chicago.

Booked our room and was so in love with the view - especially the gorgeous night view of the river and bridges and the Trump tower is close enough to touch! The location was perfect! We walked everywhere and fell in love with Chicago! Great bed, nice size room with desk and large flat screen TV. Bathroom was nice as well - the tub / shower was a little small but for a big city it was fine. Again, the view, price and location were so perfect - we did not want to leave.

Save money and time - Buy the CTA pass at the airport for the number of days you will be there and ride train into the city (this pass is good for all trains and buses! they are clean and efficient and the drivers are so friendly and knowledgeable) - get off at the Clark - Lake stop and exit the train station turn left and walk to Clark, turn left and walk to Wacker and turn right. Walk about three blocks, you will notice Hotel 71 to your left as you cross Wabash - it is just left of the round church.

Shop the Magic Mile along Michigan Ave just a half block from your door. Also, a Corner Bakery on the corner, Walgreen's arond the corner to your left and so many places to eat within three blocks from steak to sandwiches. Check out Millennium Park just about two blocks to your right on Michigan Ave. Visit the Bean, Crown fountain, The Art Institute, and enjoy walking the park. Two more blocks down a MUST see is Buckingham Fountain - you will think you are in Europe! Go in the morning for the best light for photos and again at night - on the hour for the colored lights and water show. The bus for the museums and aquarium stops across from the hotel - ride for free all the days with your pass - and be sure to ride the El - so fun!. Also visit Navy Pier and stay for the fireworks! The view from the Hancock Building is the BEST view in town.

There is a half price ticket booth for shows and concerts in the visitors center near the old water tower building on Michigan Ave. We went to a concert at the Chicago Theater and just seeing the theater was amazing - it is gorgeous! The theater is just about three blocks from the hotel so it is an easy walk.

A train ride to Oak Park is well worth the time if you love architecture - Frank Loyd Wright lived and built houses in the area and it is a beautiful area to walk around. Oak Park is just lovely - have lunch before returning to the city. The train on the green line takes you right to the center of the town - you can see most of the houses within a six block area.

Ride the RED line train to Wrigley Field for a game in one of the oldest ballparks around.

Take the architectural tour or just ride the yellow water taxis for $2 each way - this is great to do day and again at night to see the lights.

Be sure to get some popcorn from Garrett's - the lines are always there and the popcorn is yummy!

The best views are from Buckingham Fountain, Shedd Aquarium, around the Bean and from the Hancock building - great photography moments day and especially at night!

We cannot wait to come back to Chicago and Hotel 71!

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room facing the river for to die for views!

We chose this hotel for a Mother/Daughter girls weekend in Chicago and were very glad we did. The hotel was very clean and even though we arrived at the hotel early in the day, they had a room were were able to check into. We decided to upgrade to a river view for a few dollars more and were very glad we did. The view was fantastic! The staff was very friendly and accomodating. When we left to go out for the day after our first night there, the room was cleaned promptly. When ever we called for something like an extra towel, they were quick to respond. The location is central to everything. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: I would pay the extra for the river view - it is fun to watch the traffic on the river.
