The hotel got rewarded for hotel of the year 2015 if I'm not mistaken but then the jury must have missed some essential facts which - in my humble opinion - should not be missed to 'win' such a title. The lack of proper paintwork in the hallways and the rooms is one of them. The uncosy (energy saving) lighting do either no good for feeling 'at home'. However; the - more then - friendly housekeeping staff make your day start glorious and the high speed escalators also help ;-)) The hotel breathes a historical past and is well situated near the Milleniumpark and the Buckingham Fountain. The Magnificent Mile as well as the Goldcoast are within reach and after all your Chicagoimpressions you fall asleep as a prince in the great & good beds in this hotel!

This is an old building but outside exterior looks great. Especially when lights all on at night. Room has quite a few cracks. The closet is not as nice. Over all room and bathroom are cleaned. Hall way has some kind of smell. Hotel is located at center of S Michigan Ave. A walk distance to Millennium Park, Crown Fountain, Buckingham Fountain, South Lake Shore, down town at State St. A nice dinner room for meals.

Room tip: Front window faces S Michigan Ave which has good view.

We stayed here after a 2 and a half week stay in America for the last 3 days of our trip. We happened to go to America when the America's cup was on, so when we stayed in Chicago for the first 2 days, the hotels were so overpriced (including this one) that we ended up going with an apartment from Air bnb..However, after road tripping around the country, we decided to treat ourselves to a little luxury and found this hotel for the last few days (The price dropped by about £150 when we looked for a fortnight later)

When we arrived from our internal flight, we got back into the city at around 11am... We tried our luck and went straight to the hotel to see if we could cheek checking in early (as it said check in was after 3pm) ....when we got the desk, we were handed the key and away we went!

Getting to the room was pretty straight forward... there are lifts right near reception and we were on the 3rd floor.... The hotel itself felt f=very big...so it would be easy to get lost in the corridors.... but it has that old city charm that you want from a big hotel like this.

The decord was a bit dated..but to be honest, again, added to its charm. The room was what we wanted.. biggest and most comfortable bed in the world and a lovely big bathroom with a large tub... also had a really large tv and sofa....

The only con about the hotel was our view from the window... we looked onto a multi storey carpark roof... but it was so hot when we went, we drew the curtains anyway!

Friendly staff, and wonderful door staff.

The hotel was close to everything which was even better as they had a blues festival basically across the road when we went..

Would stay here again without a doubt.

Room tip: Ask for a street facing room if you want a view...

Our first visit to Chicago we needed a two bedroom room for a reasonable price, during high season. After reading some of the reviews I had a few reservations but since the price was afforrdable decided to book for four nights. The hotel is in a prime location right opposite the fountain in Grant Park. The walk for the El train to go to and from the airport is only a few blocks away, totally doable with a wheeled suitcase.
The rooms were clean, beds very comfortable. The ceilings are nice and high making it very airy.
The staff were friendly and since my husband loves history and architecture we were shown all the beautiful banquet rooms.
Everything is within walking distance. The traffic is quite congested so it wasn't worth getting a bus anywhere. We were able to see the fireworks display at North Pier walking straight across the road to the water.
