I would have given it an excellent rating except for two things.
1. There were a couple of small holes in the sheets.
2. It annoyed me that Internet was not included with room rate.

Service was excellent, restaurants were excellent, staff were helpful and hotel was clean.

Room Tip: Upgrade with a room with lake view was not worth it in winter.

I actually arrived at the hotel a day early at 1:30 AM due to weather problems and the front desk was very accommodating. I was upgraded to an executive floor room with my gold status. The executive lounge is very nice and good place to get away from convention activities. Room was nice as were all the facilities at the hotel.

Room Tip: Some rooms are small. Larger rooms are worth the upgrade costs.

I wouldn't give this hotel 5-stars because the room decor was a bit worn and carpeting in the some of the halls needed to be replaced. The lobby is done in very grand style with decor that recalls old-world opulence. My room was on the 17th floor and had a lovely lake view. The room and bed were comfy and spacious but a bit cold (in November) and hard to warm up (the extra blankets are provided). Internet access can be purchased in your room but they do have a monitor that is interactive and lists local restaurants and nearby activities so that is helpful. You can also check-in for your flight and have your boarding passes printed (for pick-up in the lobby). Food is available in the hotel but limited. The main restaurant had limited food items and is very slow and under-staffed. There's a much faster (but somewhat expensive) snack bar in the lobby where you can purchase sandwich's, salads and fruit (very convenient if you do not want to go out).
There's a very nice spa/gym. You can use the pool, sauna and indoor track for free but there's a fee for using the exercise equipment.
I went to the hotel for a conference and found it was a labyrinth and very hard to navigate-so I am not convinced that this is the best place for a large conference. But the staff are very helpful and friendly. You are also within walking distance of many other cafes and eatery's. There's a Starbucks (a small but nice one) across the street and a bit hidden but you can actually buy coffee and breakfast much cheaper there than in the hotel (which also serves Starbucks coffee for a higher price).

Room Tip: Lower level rooms are very noisy so upper level rooms are more desirable. If you schedule a shuttle...

A very average room. Upon arrival, there was blood on the sheets and a pecan (yes, strangely enough a nut) cleverly placed on one of the bathroom sinks. I don't believe the room was cleaned thoroughly as I'm sure housekeeping would have wiped a pecan off the sink. Other than that, the room was fairly comfortable. Unfortunately, you have to pay for EVERYTHING here including use of a fridge, microwave and internet.

Dear Valued Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to share your comments. Please except my sincerest apology for not meeting your expectations throughout your stay especially, for your disappointing experiences with your room accommodations and added charges. This is certainly not indicative of the normal high level of service and product we provide. Please be assured, the Hilton Chicago works hard to maintain one of the most competitive pricings for the downtown area. Our main priority is for all our guests to have a welcoming and comfortable stay with us.
We appreciate your feedback as it allows us to focus on opportunities for any necessary re-training and improvements.
We truly hope you will allow us future opportunity to serve you again in the true spirit of hospitality for which Hilton Hotels are known.

During our recent stay at the HIlton Chicago on Michigan Avenue, we were most pleased with the outstanding service and helpfulness of the staff. Especially Robert and Franco at the check-in desk on the 24th floor of the Executive Tower. They were most friendly, professional and ready to be helpful in every regard. Thank you so much.

Ray and Molly Cramer

Room Tip: Lake Michigan View if at all possible.

The Hilton Chicago is part of the Historic Hotels of America grouping. It is truly beautiful with ornate ceilings, glistening chandeliers and stylish decor that is update and period both at the same time. The rooms are generous, professionally appointed, clean and quiet. The service is exceptional both from the front desk and housekeeping staff. The hotel is reasonably priced for its class except for the Hilton's habit of nickle and diming guests. Internet is not free, except for advance reward card members, and one pays per device, so don't bring the kids with their laptops! Also, if one needs to store luggage either on the arrival end or departure side, expect to pay a $2 fee per bag! Despite extensive travel that was a first for me! We loved our stay at the Hilton, but charging to store bags seems a little over the top.

Room Tip: Aim for rooms facing Lake Michigan.

Great place to stay right in the heart of the city. Gives you easy walking access to tons of sites, subway, bus stops, restaurants, and activities. Came here for our Christmas trip and the hotel was decorated nicely and the people were very friendly even letting us check in super early. The only slight criticism is the breakfast on the weekends for the Hilton honors members was very over packed. They needed a bigger area to serve breakfast and more staff to handle the dirty plates and silverware left all over the place and in the executive level lobby!
