This is an impressive hotel. The public areas are stunning. The breakfasts are absolutely excellent (buffet breakfast included in our package). The concierge is second-to-none. The free wi-fi in the lobby is very welcome. The roof terrace offers a very restful place to watch the world go by, with a pleasant pool and Jacuzzi right next door. (Didn’t use the gym, so can’t comment.)
Rooms are fairly spacious and include some of the best filter coffee I’ve had in a hotel room! Both the bed and pillows were very, very comfortable. Also I like the technique I’ve come across in several North American hotels of folding the quilt into what appears to be a quilt cover but is actually 2 cotton sheets, so if it’s a warm evening you can just sleep under a sheet. Having a lake view was a real treat (our agent got a really good package for us, lake view and breakfast) – especially as we got to see some stunning Lake Michigan sunrises! Rooms on some floors looking a little dated now but it appears there is a rolling refurb' underway and the floors that have been remodeled are gorgeous.
Add to all of this its excellent location and you can’t ask for more. From the upper floors you can see Grant Park and the lovely Buckingham Fountain just across the road. There’s Millennium Park nearby. Also it’s a very short walk to the Magnificent Mile, to most of the must-see aspects of Chicago, to the Chicago River boat trips and more.
