Went with a group of friends on a recommendation and it didn't disappoint. The food was excellent, service was great and it's BYOB. I had the Grandma's Special and lots of our group had the special of the night which was lobster and chicken. We also shared some mixed appetizers... make sure you try the Yucca. There's a very cheap liquor shop a block away to grab your drinks.

This small Cuban oasis on the 1400 block of West Chicago is a must visit if you need your Cuban Sandwich Fix. I used to think that the only way to get a really good Cuban sandwich in Chicago was to drive to O’Hare and fly down to Miami. You can save on the airfare because the Cuban you can get at Habana Libre is sensational. The pulled pork is tender and succulent with a pleasant exotic spice, the ham is smoky and salty and the pickle and mustard is on-point. But any good Cuban sandwich is as much about the bread as what’s inside and this bread is awesome. The bread is served piping hot, crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside coated in garilc. The black beans served with white rice are really special, I could live in that dark smooth broth. The empanadas are fantastic, the crust is buttery and light and the meat is seasoned just right. Skip the crocetas.
The vibe of this place is a small and casual cantina. Decorated with Cuban memorabilia, paintings and maps, with Cuban music playing, it feels like you are in a cantina in Havana just blocks from the Caribbean.

This place doesn't appear so great from the outside, but the inside is warm, bright and cozy. The food is amazing and SO reasonably priced, plus it's BYOB. Must try the pollo/rice dish, which takes about 45 min., so order ahead. Service was mediocre, but I think just because it was a Friday night and it was very busy. If you like Cuban food, I would definitely recommed a visit to this restaurant.

Great selection of empanadas, but my real focus is the rabo encendido (cuban oxtail stew). It is out of this world! My only gripe is sometimes the wait can be long (has a small kitchen) and the staff inattentive. It's BYOB, so enjoy a bottle of wine while you wait.
