The Hawthorne Terrace provides a unique big city hotel experience. Nestled in the bustling neighborhood of Lakeview East about a mile from the lake front, this charming older property has the feel of Europe with a super-friendly staff. Our mini suite was roomy and nicely furnished. The free wi-fi and breakfast are nice touches. Definitely a place to consider if you want to see Chicago from a different angle.

This hotel is beyond terrible. The only positive about this hotel is the location. For a hotel to be in the heart of a gay community we were not attacked once but twice by hotel staff because of being gay. When confronted the manager states we would speak to them.

Loved the comfortable room and the overhead rain-like shower head. The breakfast selections exceeded our expectations! Parking in the adjoining garage is convenient but expensive. Take what you need from the car upon arrival because there's limited access to it after handing your car keys to the attendant. The parking fee is paid at the hotel desk and is itemized with your bill. Just be aware that if you don't retrieve your car by 1pm, you'll be charged the full parking rate for another day.

This hotel is incredibly homey, sweet, clean, and in a really nice neighborhood. This was both mine and my boyfriend's first time coming to Chicago, and we weren't sure what the neighborhood we would be in was like, but there were lots of young adults around, and many people (obviously locals) walking around alone, which is a good sign when it comes to safety. We had pizza at Panino's a few blocks away and it was delicious. The staff was very nice and we had more than what we needed in the room. Nice bathroom with timed heating light, keurig in the bedroom! In the morning, the cinnamon rolls were the best! SO many things within walking distance.

Air conditioner very loud, and room could get pretty humid if you used the shower and then didn't have the air conditioner and fan on. Room a bit small, but organized nicely, so there was a lot that could be fit in it and still feel comfortably roomy enough. I'd probably get a suite if you can afford it if you're staying a few nights.

LGBT FRIENDLY COMMUNITY!!!!!! :)

Room Tip: middle rooms are larger

Staff was very friendly and helpful, clean rooms, great hot breakfast. Excelllent neighborhood to walk in (day or night) with many restaurants and points of interest close. Parked car in garage next door -- very easy. Would definitely stay here again.
