Owner description: Walking tours that delight visitors with the "second side of the Second City," with gorgeous, fascinating, and often hidden details behind many doors. Get to know Chicago through its real-life stories: the explorers, settlers, architects, business people, laborers, immigrants, and revolutionaries who developed the area from its beginnings as a marshy outpost to the beating heart of America that it is today. Walk your walk through modern architectural history, all the way to plans for the future look of Chicago! Inside Chicago Walking Tours is a young walking tour company founded by Hillary Marzec, an experienced tour guide and product development director for a major sightseeing company in Chicago. Given the freedom to research and construct her own tours, she used her years of experience as a teacher, writer, improv comedian, and tour guide to create tours that tell the story of Chicago in an engaging, educational, and always entertaining way. We know that the best way to get information to "stick" with people -- and to be interesting to people -- is to convey it like a story, with a logical beginning, middle, and end. Most architecture tours of Chicago -- boats, walks, segways, etc. --present you the city like an overwhelming laundry list of information that you'll likely forget. For us, there is a reason we are exploring a certain area, or following a certain path: the architecture that we explore is like the vocabulary of the larger story we are telling. What makes us different? It's our ability to find the hidden and fascinating details of buildings and areas that people pass through or pass by every day. It's our passion for showing visitors, whether they be out-of-towners or Chicagoans, a side of Chicago that they haven't noticed before. We love to focus on the stunning interiors of buildings throughout downtown Chicago - including many of the buildings along the river - and we even provide you with an "insider's scoop" on lots of the exterior architectural elements that most guides won't show you. Your guide, Hillary, will delight you with a side of Chicago you've never seen. Take it from a past tour participant: "Imagine your favorite teacher when you were growing up - engaging, charismatic, and really made you love learning. That's Hillary. Don't miss her tours!"

Hillary was our tour guide for creating the melting pot the West Loop and Wolfpoint tour. You couldn't find a more knowledgeable tour guide who presents the information in an easy conversational style. Hillary took us on a visual stimulating and interesting tour through through the west part of the city while sharing stories of the people who lived and worked there. Her easy-going manner made all of us feel comfortable on this 2 mile walk. I would highly recommend any inside Chicago tour.

I took a group of expats (and visitors) on this tour on a rainy Monday morning. Hilary was amazing from the time I booked the tour right until the end. I had trouble on the website and sent an e-mail. It was answered that same evening and all sorted out. When we got to the tour Hilary explained that this is her own company and she does everything. I really admired her for telling us all this. It's hard to compete with the big boys. As I say, the weather was a little wet during our tour which made the noise levels a little intense but Hilary did her best to make sure we could all hear okay. The pace with pretty leisurely but kept moving. We did the Secrets of the Loop tour as I had done a walking tour before and many many boat tours. Plus having had lots of visitor I had sort of found stuff out for myself. Even so some of it was completely new to me. I guess if you are new to Chicago this is a good one to do. I am going to try one of the other more in depth ones she does. I always want to know more. Thank you Hilary for doing a great job.

There are many wonderful things to experience in Chicago without spending a penny (except for meals). Start on Diversey and Sheridan at the Elks Memorial (a volunteer there will show you around), walk through the park, around North Pond (for a beautiful view of the city skyline) to Fullerton and on your right, the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pond, a hidden jewel in the city. Stop into the Lincoln Park Conservatory - on weekends a docent will give you a free tour and don't miss a stroll through the gardens if the weather is fine. The zoo is right there, as is south pond, a beautiful sanctuary. At the south end of south pond, walk east toward the lake and over the pedestrian bridge for a stroll along the lake south to Oak Street Beach. Here you can switch onto Michigan Ave. This is just the beginning, but I'll leavethe rest for you top discover.

The tour was great! We chose this over a boat tour to get a little exercise and it was awesome to get to enter some of the buildings. Hillary was very knowledgeable and passionate about the tour. Will definitely do again.
