Description: Primehouse in The James Hotel features a modern steakhouse menu with hand-picked meats that are dry-aged for 28 to 75 days in a Himalayan salt-tiled aging room on premise. An intimate destination for special gatherings, the Private Dining Room is a noteworthy addition to the steakhouse. Conceived as a modern interpretation of the classic "chef's table" meant for private dining, it serves to complement the progressive fare. #1 Steakhouse in Chicago by Chicago magazine, Best Burger in the U.S. by Food & Wine, Best Steakhouses in the U.S. by USA Today.

The filet was better than the dry-aged steak.
The caesar salad could have been a bag of romaine lettuce with dressing. Even the croutons weren't tasty.
Overall, an ok experience--dessert may have been the best part of the meal.
Wait staff was a bit too attentive; however, later weekend experience led us to believe that this was better than others.
Overall, was rather pricey for the quality and experience.

“Not what we had hoped for”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 5, 2014

After seeing David on Top Chef I was really excited about going to Primehouse. Sadly, I came away disappointed. The best part about the restaurant was the bar, which is what you might expect. The dining floor was very loud and crowded. My steak, rated one of the best in Chicago, was undercooked, and the sides were unexciting. I really did expect more.

“Great Place”

I went there during the day in February and got to see they dry aging room which is very cool. I had a burger that was one of the best ever and I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Chicago.

“Not the best steakhouse I have ever been to….”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2014

I recently visited this steakhouse with a group of friends and was first off disappointed that they had no 75 day dry-aged steaks available by our 8 pm reservation. We were told that they usually sell out by 6 pm most evenings of this item, wish we had known that before making the reservation. Secondly, I found the sides to be unremarkable. Bussing was overzealous in that they did not allow us the feeling of truly enjoying a meal together, but rather like we were on an assembly line being rushed through…. in all, items on menu tasted more pedestrian than the food descriptions had me hoping. 55 day dry-aged steak was good, but in my experience, I have paid less for better tasting food in a less rushed atmosphere. Noise volume is also loud. We were in a booth and I couldn't even hear/speak to the person at the far end of the table…. in all, pick somewhere else in Chicago for a great steak experience.

“Steak at its Best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 24, 2014

a great steak menu containing well aged beef for the connoisseur of aged meat. Menu varied bur steak based but some interesting sea food appetizers. 55 day on the bone rib eye is superb but all the other dinners looked more than satisfied.
Suggest try the lollipop tree desert, different and interesting.
