“Love The James”
Reviewed February 17, 2008

We think this hotel is great. My husband and I stayed here two weekends ago and then came back with our two teenagers this past weekend. We think The James is wonderful. First the location is ideal, one block off MIchigan Ave. at Ontario, there are so many great things to do nearby. The hotel is just the right size, big enough to have good amenities, a great bar, restaurant, workout room, but small enough to feel intimate. The staff is wonderfully friendly and accomodating. When they discovered we had returned after staying there two weeks earlier, they were so pleased and really bend over backwards to give us an exceptionally nice room. The rooms are somewhat small, but I think really typical of a downtown metropolitan hotel. The large flat screen TV is very nice. I would recommend this hotel highly and will be sure to stay here again. We found great prices for the James both at Expedia and Orbitz.

The James hotel was beautiful. The only thing negative I could think to mention is the tiny elevator. It only fits a couple people and their luggage comfortably.

The room was beautiful and comfortable though. I loved the big screen tv and Kiehl's bath products. The bar was stocked with mini and full sized bottles. I thought that was a neat touch. My MP3 player plugged right up to the speakers. That was great. The bed was super comfortable and the time projected onto the ceiling. That was a nice touch. The slippers were nice too.

I was there on business, so I didn't pay for the room and can't speak to the value but I was very impressed with the hotel and the room!

wow, i can't believe some of the reviews for the james! i've stayed at the james numerous times for business, and it is just wonderful. i love the rooms - they're small and modern - but i like the coziness of them (and love the kiehls products). Also i've found the staff incredibly helpful and friendly. Especially for business travel i'm incredibly picky, and just want everything to go as smooth as possible - and have found the james exactly what i need after the stress of o'hare and far too long business meetings. i would recommend a stay here to anyone!

This was one of the best stay's my wife and I have had for our anniversary. We stayed on the 5th floor studio. It was truly superb.
The doormen were the friendliest peole. The bed was very comfortable and the flat sceen tv on the wall was nice. Also the alarm clock projects on ceiling. nice touch. Interior design was very modern yet comfortable. My wife does interior decorating and that's how she described it. I agree. I highly recommend this property.

The James is a brilliant, super sleek hotel. Excellent rooms, super service, the best location, and very trendy throughout.
You will not regret booking this hotel - and if you do do not miss the steak house in the hotel!!

We stayed at the James over a celebratory weekend and chose it over competitors due to its' recent inclusion into the Leading Hotels of the World. Check-in was perfunctory with the clerk adding his congratulations as an afterthought. There were beautiful flowers in the room though as an added gesture. We asked for a DVD player for the room but sadly one could not be installed without some difficulty so we abandoned the idea. On checking with the front desk it transpired we had been allocated an inferior room type so we moved to a junior suite which was extremely comfortable if somewhat minimalist in style. Great bed, shower and views across the city though. Some issues with housekeeping; we had to ASK for the room to be serviced one day, dirty cups and glasses were not removed on another occasion and on returning to the room late one night, the radio was on leading us to believe perhaps a staff member had been enjoying the facilities! Also the room key continued to be problematic during the entire stay leading the front desk staff to "accuse" us of keeping it near a moblie phone which was untrue. Wonderful food at the restaurant but spoiled by the Maitre D's superior attitude. Excellent doormen who were always courteous, informative and fun (much like the rest of the city) and the location could not be better.
A "cool" (how I hate that word) very slightly pretentious property which promises more than it actually delivers and the minor caveats really stop it being in the "leading" category.

**A note**
BEWARE. The staff do not inform you that they "block" $100 per night on your credit card as a guarantee; this can be difficult if you are budgeting.
