Description: (OH-STEH-REE-YAH) A casual Italian tavern where people gather to enjoy antipasti with wine, a plate of pasta or an Italian feast, all served with the warmth and hospitality of family. Osteria Via Stato, a Lettuce Entertain You restaurant follows this definition and the Italian tradition of seasonally prepared dishes featuring local ingredients and artisanal producers paired with an all Italian wine list. Osteria Via Stato opens daily at five. Pizzeria Via Stato located adjacent to Osteria Via Stato is a cozy, Roman-style pizzeria that continues to highlight Executive Chef Digregorio’s passion for market-fresh ingredients. The tavern pizzas have crispy, thin crust with both artisanal and classic toppings. The tavern also features 300 Italian wines, local bottles and draft beers as well as an extensive selection of small plates. Pizzeria Via Stato offers both lunch and dinner

“Ambiance and good food at a reasonable price”
Reviewed October 20, 2013

In town for the Chicago Marathon last weekend without a dinner reservation! We wanted a nice atmosphere that wasn't too loud, with good food and good service. This restaurant filled the bill.
We snagged a table inside which was very lucky as the place was fully booked. We shared the Caprese salad, which was good, but not the best I've ever had, but the warm bread and dipping oil was very good. Our chicken entrees were delicious, and we ordered a side of red potatoes with herbs which were roasted I think. They were crunchy and tasty. The service was excellent, and our waiter was very helpful and friendly. It turned out to be exactly what we wanted. We'll definitely return next time we're in the city!

“Good food and service at a reasonable price”

Enjoyed our meal at Osteria. Charcuterie platter was great and had to hold off on the excellent homemade bread or we would not have been able to eat dinner. Server was very pleasant and knowledgable and was very honest about the food quantities which we appreciate. Pasta was tender and cooked to perfection. Rissotto was a bit overcooked and too much liquid for my taste.
Great dessert and a limoncello to finish.
After a few rather expensive meals, Osteria provided excellent value.

“Very good Italian in the heart of Chicago”
Reviewed October 16, 2013

I was a solo diner on a Wednesday. I walked in off the street and was seated within 10 minutes. There are actually two restaurants in one location; a pizzeria as part of the bar and a full restaurant through a doorway. I ate in the full restaurant. Menu has family style fixed price menu for groups of any size and an ala-carte menu. I had the roasted beet salad and a side order sized paperdelle with three meat sauce. They serve warm white bread with an olive oil / balsamic vinegar dipping sauce that has whole roasted garlics in it. Yum...yum...yum. You have a choice of still or sparkling water at no extra charge. The beet salad had yellow and red beets with gorgonzola, walnuts, and arugola. The pasta was done al-dente and the meat sauce was very flavorful. Pasta was served HOT. Good wine list by the glass.

A place you could walk into with a small or large group and have a wonderful time. The noise level was on the high end but you could have a conversation.

“Amazing Food and Service!”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

Great food right before the marathon. The pizza sauce was the best sauce I've ever had and I love the thin crust compared to all of the thick Chicago crusts. The service and atmosphere were wonderful and everything we ordered was delicious!
