Owner description: The Lookingglass Theatre Company seeks to redefine the limits of theatrical experience and to make theatre exhilarating, inspirational, and accessible to all.Through theatre, which invites, even demands, interaction with its audience, the company's goal is to fire the imagination with love, to celebrate the human capacity to taste and smell, weep and laugh, create and destroy, and wake up where we first fell --- changed, charged and empowered.

We went to “Big Lake Big City” and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

It is a VERY intimate theater in the round experience. The show was funny (campy) and well acted and produced, especially considering the venue.

It's in the historic Waterworks building on Mich. Ave. and a very reasonably priced theater ticket ticket at about $45.

I thoroughly enjoyed this play! The play was well-written and well-acted. The theatre itself is great - really small and intimate. The building is beautiful, and there is some cool old public works stuff you can see in the front part of the building. It is also on Michigan avenue, and you can walk around and shop before or after the play. I parked in the John Handcock center parking, and the theatre validated my parking (it ended up being $10 instead of $34). I am very glad I went. I will go again next time I am in Chicago.

Make sure you understand what this play is before you go. It's ridiculous, farcical at times, very funny in places - but also dark at times, with a touch of serious underlying everything. And there are lots of fake deaths, gunshots, a guy with a knife in his head, and some quite disturbing stuff involving corpses. If you're OK with that sort if thing, it's a great evening's fun that isn't all slapstick and cheap jokes (although there certainly are some!)

The theater is unusual and interesting, right on the Magnificent Mile and easy to get to from the Chicago station on the Red Line.

The Lookingglass Theater is a must for all modern theater lovers. The theater, housed on Chicago's infamous Michigan Avenue is gorgeous and boasts a season rich with talent and excitement. Started by Ross Schwimmer, the theater has grown to be a staple of Chicago culture. Your trip to Chicago isn't complete without seeing a play at this amazing venue.

The setting in the old pump house is very cool. Unfortunately, the plays are not as professional as one would expect.
