Check out not only the main Shakespeare play, but the other play they have. Affordable - tickets were $20 - and worthwhile.

“Dreamt about it”
Reviewed February 28, 2013

Saw Julius Caesar last night at CST.
Barbara Gaines' production are outstanding, and this one is no exception. The set, the staging, the articulation- all superb.
Plus, even though being faithful to the text, the production brought it right up to our times.
So visceral and raw, I dreamt about violence last night.
Every person even mildly interested in Shakespeare would be delighted to have the experience of that theatre space, those productions. Even if it's not a play by Shakespeare.
Navy Pier is so much fun to walk through to get to the theatre too!
Plus, I used the audio head set and was very pleased to be able to hear better.

“Excellent venue; professional production”
Reviewed February 27, 2013

Saw the play School for Lies here which included an excellent preprogram lecture by a professor from Loyola Univ. The lecture really enhanced enjoyment of the performance. The space is amazing- I don't think there's a bad seat in the house. It had a thrust stage so the seats surround on 3 sides. The production was very professional and polished- costumes were opulent and a bit outrageous befitting the period and the comedy. This was a delightful theater experience. Also there are scenic lake views from the theater lobby. They made the most of the view when designing the space.

“Julius Caesar on Steroids!”
Reviewed February 27, 2013

The CST is known for brilliant productions of Shakespeare's entire canon of plays and for equally brilliant productions of other important plays. The current production of Julius Caesar is exceptional in that is is faithful to the intent of Shakespeare's writing while updating the story to a muscular present/future time period where the conflicts are representative of modern warfare but the humanity and spirit of the characters are undiminished.
