This was one of my favorite places. I love plants and there were lots of them inside while there was snow on the ground outside. We rode the El out to Garfield and back into Chicago. This is a great place for singles, couples, or families to go and it's FREE. They only ask for a donation. Great place.

The Conservatory was recommended to us by a friend years ago, we finally visited last week. My teen sons really enjoyed this place also. It is not as far from downtown as it looked to me on the map. The el stop is right next door, though we drove. Parking is right there and is free along with the entrance. There were some young kids doing a scavenger hunt that the front desk provided, they were having fun, there is also a children's garden with a slide and some things to climb on. Don't miss the beautiful mosaic fountain.

The lush green plants are a welcome break from the Chicago winter. We visited the Garfield Park Conservatory for the second time in 3 years. Our first visit was before the hail storm that damaged many of the glass panes (June 2011). Repairs are still underway but much of the conservatory is open to the public. There are educational displays for children that are valuable for adults too. Overall, the conservatory is a peaceful place that is a few minutes drive from downtown.

My girlfriend works for a botanical garden so we inevitably end up visiting all gardens and conservatories when we travel and this one was excellent. We were there in the middle of a large snow storm in the winter so we were limited to the indoor gardens but they were more than enough. They had a wide arrange of plant life beautifully cared for.

The conservatory also had many sections geared directly towards children. Would be a great place to take the kids for a good time and learning experience.

Admission is free but they ask for a donation and the entrance is less than a block from the L.

We have visited the Conservatory twice now during the winter. Both times we have been pleased and will most likely return for a third time in the future.

The Conservatory is easily reached by taking the El Green Line to the Conservatory / Central Park Dr. stop and walking one block. There is an elevator at the train stop as well. Admission to the conservatory is free. Children will also find interests such as a play slide and stocked fish ponds.

Overall, the place is beautiful with impeccably maintained plants and trees- it looks like something out of a postcard. The nice thing is you are enjoying all this wearing a t-shift inside while it's freezing outside. Well worth a visit.
