The thompson is in a great location in the centre of the city within walking distance of a number of tourist attractions. Facilities in the hotel were excellent. Staff were helpful and friendly. We had a great time and would definitely head here again.

An excellent hotel in a great location right off Rush street. Room was not huge but very well appointed. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Nice workout room. Lots of great restaurants right outside the door; Orig Pancake House across the street, Lou Malnati's up the block (and what else do you really need?) Walkable to Chicago River attractions, Hancock Bldg, Navy Pier.

Room Tip: The "lake view" rooms don't see much of the lake, but a corner room has a great evenin...

My wife and I had an absolutely outstanding 4 night stay in the Thompson. The location was ideal to downtown and very convenient for Metro and the train station. The staff are very nice and accommodating and the morning coffee in the lounge area by the fireplace was a daily ritual. I did wish that free coffee was more accessible at times other than 6am-9am but that is really trivial. We walked to many surrounding areas and when it was too far a cab rarely cost us more than $10.

The elevators are fast and clean and the room was outstanding. The individual thermostat worked great and the couch was a wonderful lounge and relax area. The bedding and in our opinion the down pillows made this experience. It was truly great bedding. So much in fact we are ordering the same pillows for our home. The safe was one of the best and simplest we have used. It worked perfectly and exactly as you expect that it will.

The other thing you notice is just how simply quiet it is in the hotel. No street noise. Barely any hallway noise. It was a very nice experience to not have to hear other people all the time - day or night.

If I had one complaint it would be about the shower. The fact its so huge was amazing except that the experience itself is just not that enjoyable. The rain shower head is too high and set too far back away from your shampoo and soaps. You have to continually come out and for me personally, I like a nice high water pressure shower. With the shower head so high, this element of the rain was gone. When you switched to the wand / handheld unit it was just wimpy and in that enormous space you were cold. My wife had to sit on the floor to shave because there was no seat or ledge. Ideally you could run both water pieces together for a better experience or make dual heads and market it to couples. My wife was not thrilled at the lack of ventilation fogging up her makeup mirror.
If you read my other reviews, you know that I am a firm believer that if I hang my towel up, I intend to keep it and prefer to be green when possible. I believe that this should be stated hotel policy.
Hang it - Keep it. Drop It - Replace it.
It was interested from a eco-conscious hotel that our towels were changed daily even when hung up. (we provided no specific instruction). I consider all of this very minor - but didn't love it.

Having Nico as an onsite restaurant is also a bonus, as was the outstanding farmers market 2 blocks away! Nico is truely a delicious experience. We enjoyed breakfast several days and lunch once.

The Thompson makes me never want to stay in a Marriott again.
Looking forward to returning to Chicago and the Thompson again soon.

Loved the location, wish we could have stayed longer. We arrived on the train from GR earlier than check-in time, our room was not ready so we wandered around. We had no idea of the surprise that awaited us! We were celebrating my birthday, and had noted it on our reservation, and we received an awesome upgrade to a Skyline Suite! 2 floors, with a view of the city. We needed a little rest after our early train ride and wandering for a couple of hours, so I took a nap in the amazingly comfortable bed, while my hubby watched TV in the living room downstairs. The shower was beautiful, and I loved the toiletries (lavendar and peppermint, mmmm). Everyone was so nice and friendly, loved the little touch by the front desk to come out from behind the counter to give us our key and welcome us. They held our bags for us while we toured the city more after check out, and helped us book our "touristy" double decker tour that we do every where we go. It's just become our thing. Dinner at Morton's (another tradition for us, although we were by far the youngest patrons there - but you can't beat their steaks!) and breakfast at the Original Pancake House (biggest omelette I've ever seen). Would stay here again if we get the chance.

Loved this hotel…Fantastic staff, very clean, GREAT neighborhood. Loved the bed, the pillows, the sheets & the bathrobe - would literally buy them all for my home.
The staff couldn't have been nicer - and more helpful w/recommendations & accommodations. The views are great - and the neighborhood - is so terrific - you are in the center of everything. Would recommend to anyone - and would go back there again.

Stayed at the Thompson for a last minute planned evening. The hotel is located in a very stylish, upscale neighborhood with lots of bars, restaurants and shopping nearby. Also, as a bit of a surprise from someone who isn't local, there is a very nice beach that is about a 10 min walk from the hotel.

As for the hotel itself, the highlight was clearly the staff. Everyone from the manager to the front desk to the cleaning staff were friendly and helpful. Just a joy to be around.

The room was very nice. Large, clean and luxurious. We were on a relatively high floor facing south and had a great view of the Willis Tower. We also checked out the fitness center, which was very nice. Had plenty of equipment (weights, cardio, boxing, etc). The lobby has a very nice bar and attached restaurant. Did not get a chance to try, but the guests seemed to be enjoying their time.

Overall, a very good upscale choice if you are ever in Chicago.

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors facing south feature views of the Willis Tower
