“Thanksgiving dinner at the Palm”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

The Palm is located in the Swissotel in Chicago. It's where you go if you have no other plans and you forgot to make reservations till the day before. To its credit, the walls are covered with cartoon-style illustrations and charactatures that tell the story of Chicago on both a broad and insider scale. And the atmosphere in the lobby is pretty cool. And it's a brief walk to the Mag Mile.

We made the mistake of ordering from the Thanksgiving menu, and were treated to institutional quality turkey, mashed potatoes, beans, and fixings. Thank goodness the wine and pre-dinner drinks were sturdy. The patrons ranged from similarly situated couples and families, to a few clueless tourists. Service was blase, the waiter was disinterested. Our fault for picking this place under the circumstances. Probably a decent place if you're staying at the Suissotel as a tourist, but not a venue for a memorable evening.

“The Palm Restaurant business lunch at its' best.”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

The Palm Restaurant provides an 'old school' approach to a steak house. The business lunch is a great value for only $22 bucks. Soup, or Salad and a steak. It helps close the deal to have your picture on the wall. The service is consistently excellent at all Palm Restaurants.

“The Palm”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

There are a great many places in Chicago to enjoy a steak dinner. I would have to say The Palm does not excel in any category on their menu. A Gin & Tonic will set you back $13.00 + tip and a margharita $15.00. The main meals are just as pricey, but nothing to urge a desire to return. There are better choices out there. I should have checked with my fellow Tripadvisor reviewers first. Grand total for two people with two glasses of wine each $319.00!

“Some palms are definitely better than others”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

I've been to a lot of Palms in my time and always find that the ones in the hotels are slightly less well orchestrated than the ones found on their own or in a shopping environment. For example, the one in Boston and Philadelphia are located near hotels, but they are also part of a more robust shopping experience. The decor at these are less "businessy" and more "brasserie". The one in Chicago and Denver and even Atlantic City, meanwhile, are in hotels and have a more serious mood to them. Obviously, the Palm serves up good food, pricey steaks and the like. But, if I'm in Chicago, I'd probably prefer to go to a specific Chicago steakhouse.
