The Palm is located in the Swissotel in Chicago. It's where you go if you have no other plans and you forgot to make reservations till the day before. To its credit, the walls are covered with cartoon-style illustrations and charactatures that tell the story of Chicago on both a broad and insider scale. And the atmosphere in the lobby is pretty cool. And it's a brief walk to the Mag Mile.
We made the mistake of ordering from the Thanksgiving menu, and were treated to institutional quality turkey, mashed potatoes, beans, and fixings. Thank goodness the wine and pre-dinner drinks were sturdy. The patrons ranged from similarly situated couples and families, to a few clueless tourists. Service was blase, the waiter was disinterested. Our fault for picking this place under the circumstances. Probably a decent place if you're staying at the Suissotel as a tourist, but not a venue for a memorable evening.
